Paragraphix Etch set for the MPC Pilgrim Observer from Ebay:

Goes with this kit:

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Your bookshops sell models?
What a civilised country.

Even Waterstones  have a few models for sale; explore the British History section and you might find  Spitfires and Gnats

I've seen the Pilgrim Observer on NZ's auction site TradeMe lately, it's tempting but that PE makes me really want it! It's gorgeous!

They have a small range of toys and used to have about a dozen 1/72 Airfix and Tamiya kits and some Tamiya acrylics but they cleared these out about a year ago (so I got a Tamiya F-117 for cheap). Then in the last fortnight they got a lovely little stand with a bunch of 1/72 and 1/76 kits, starter sets and Humbrol tinlets and glues. And when I bought the kits the young guy serving me was disappointed as he wanted the Gladiator, and asked me about paints! Very promising that they have at least one staff member who's into models.

It's a nationwide chain but the other two local branches - 30min and an hour away - didn't have any, so it may have been "my" franchisee's choice. One for which I am very grateful. Although visiting another shop online last night showed me each kit was $9 cheaper elsewhere...ah well! After going through the sprues last night I think they're worth the more expensive price.

After all that rambling, another addition arrived today!

Kiwi modeller Colin Sutherland trades as OldModels Decals and does a HUGE range of sheets for NZ-specific subjects in almost every scale. This is a 1/144 sheet for a Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL - predecessor of Air New Zealand) Lockheed 188 Electra.

It's not going on an Electra...

I tend to avoid bookshops as my impulse control with books is worse than with model kits and it gets expensive.
Combining both in one shop would get doubly so...

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

As a fellow sufferer, I sympathise!  Second hand bookshops/charity shops are even worse.

Ok off eBay I got the HobbyBoss USS Iwo Jima LHD-7 in 1/700, cheap possibly because the kit relies on the use of Photo Etch as opposed to being an alternative to plastic parts. A bit frustrating too as being the last ship of the series and the last to be kitted the boxart clearly shows F-35B yet non are included in the kit. Not a problem as I have the excellent Shapeways versions but its annoying when the boxart implies something that's not actually included.

Also delivered (finally) is the HP Models 1/700 HMS Triumph 1946, this was the 2nd of the two Colossus class my late father served aboard in the late 40s. Its a made to order resin kit a bit expensive but includes a hollow hanger deck and hull openings for finer detail. I have the cheaper L'Arsenal kit which has extras like PE but has a solid hull and that will become HMS Ocean his other ship.

There's a trick to that. Buy enough books to reach critical mass, and your library will connect to L-space. Haven't reached that point yet though  :-\

Yea and once connected you find your bananas mysteriously disappearing - ooook  ;) Beware the Librarian  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Didn't the late, great Terry Pratchett come up with the Discworld concept that " ....the Dewey decimal system has its uses, but what you really need in the Great Library is a large ball of string......"   I may have misquoted, but I think that's approximately what he said.   Perhaps our esteemed Librarian may be aware of this???
