Chris's Alternate BoB Luftwaffe - the pair that missed the deadline

Well here's the 2 builds that were intended for the BoB build but missed the deadline for varying reasons.

First the Ha B&V 137

Ha 137 B-1 of 6./St.G2 "Immelmann" France, summer 1940. Built as a competitor in the competition that produced the Ju 87 the game was up for the 137 when the authorities changed the rules in favour of the Junkers design and decided they wanted a two seater. Prototypes were built with both radial and inline engines but neither entered production.

In my world the inline engine version did in fact go into production in case there were any problems with the Junkers design and still equipped a few squadrons in the summer of 1940. One of the problems with the design was the placement of the radiator which inhibited the carriage of any under fuselage load and thus the aircraft could only carry 4 wing mounted bombs compared to the Junker's much heavier load. The remaining aircraft were withdrawn from service in October 1940, but those that remained were taken out of storage in 1942 and used in the ground support role in the war against the Soviet Union where their heavier machine gun armament (4 instead of 2 in the Ju 87) came in useful.

It's the Olimp kit which is superb. I really haven't done it justice at all, mainly for reasons detailed in my blog. The transfers come form a Print Scale sheet and took an age to come off the backing paper and some were translucent. For this reason I had to use some from a DP Casper sheet. Paints are my usual mix of Xtracrylic, Lifecolor, Games Workshop and Humbrol. I have the radial engine version of this kit in the stash an dindeed have built the Planet Models one. I'd like another inline version so that I could move the radiator forward to under the chin and fit a large fuselage mounted bomb and a closed canopy.

Here's the He 100

He 100 E-3 of Ofw Johann Illner 4./JG 51 August 1940. Again an aircraft built in competition which lost out to the eventual winner the Me 109. Again I have the Luftwaffe putting it into limited production in case of production problems with the 109 but in this case it proved successful and was developed farther. The E-3 version having a 20mm cannon firing through the hub and a 7.7mm m.g. in the port wing with a 13mm in the starboard.

The kit is the old MPM one and is of a very limited nature. It builds well however providing you take your time and providing you use the etch provided for things like landing leg doors and substitute sprue or the spares box for parts like the guns etc – which is why mine has a 7.7mm and a 13mm ! However as per the 137 my on going vision problems made life fun at times  :banghead:

Transfers are from a sheet I got at a Southern Expo many years ago " Hornchurch v the Luftwaffe and was done especially for the show. Paints are my usual mix of Xtracrylic, Lifecolor, Games Workshop and Humbrol.

Both are gorgeous Chris.  But I feel the 137 is gorgeouser.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I'm with Fred there too, the 137 looks so totally different from the well known Stuka that you need to re-calibrate your brain to see the 'dive bomber' in it.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Both look great! I like the look of the 137, although i prefer the Heinkel's design better...
Good work!

I know what you mean Kit, but from some angles it does look very Stuka'ish. Move the radiator forward and give it an enclosed cockpit and it would really look the part. About the same size as well although it has a bigger wing. I like the wingtip radio masks

Very nice builds Chris.  If Kit had allowed the extra extra week I kind of hinted at they'd have been eligible for the vote - so blame Kit!  ;)

No, please, blame all the Moderators!  We stood united on the lack of an extension.  It was too close to Christmas and so we had to put a stop to the GB.  Even Chris was in favour of stopping it when we did.   :banghead:

Rick' is absolutely right we got to close to Christmas and I was way to ambitious with my build plan. I should have remembered that I always spend time after Telford just chilling and it takes a while to find the mojo. I could have finished them but having already screwed them (look at the 100's canopy  :banghead:) I didn't push it. My choice. mind you I'll still blame Kit anyway  ;D

I'm going to take the 100 canopy off and re-trim it once I get my current socialising out of the way
