Well I've started on my first project (there may be a second) and unusually for me it doesn't have propellers !

I'll be building an aircraft that still 60 years or so after it first flew very little is known about, indeed rumour has it that 4 are still being used in the long range strategic reconnaissance role

I've so far built the cockpit although it really should be called the control room and it looks more like the bridge from the Starship Enterprise rather than any aircraft cockpit I've previously built

I will post progress pics as I get to the relevant stages but Jan is a very busy month for me so don't hold your breath. Feb is much more likely

Well spotted sir

I'm making good progress so started thinking about markings. She will be anti-flash white (was it matt or gloss ? ) and I have some pink/pale blue roundels/flashes that I think will fit. I might well give her some colour though and say it was applied for the air show season. 617 Sqd ?

B-49?

Your description of the cockpit sounds just like my Northrop Northampton, which originally was a B-35 and had a similarly vast cockpit.

If so the two of them will  make a great pairing on the SIG stand this year.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

The Wooksta!

Many, many years back - 1997, at the last Donnington - the SIG had a pair of Northrop flying wings as part of the display, both by Ian Hartup.  Kit may remember them - the YB49 was in RAF anti-flash with 617 Sqn markings.

I've a part started YB49 somewhere - maybe we could make a threesome?

That does ring bells, yes.

With THREE Northrop wings on the stand we'd have to stack the other models on top of them :)

Think it was satin    ;D

Great idea anyway,  I'm going to build my XB-49 with two Grand Slams someday and with the YRB-49 auxiliary jet engines
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Yup it is the YB-49 kit but don't worry about space as it's the Cyber Hobby 1/200 scale kit  ;D Just about got her built, so if the weather improves I may get her sprayed before I go on missionary work next week  ;D

Typical  :banghead: Strangely I saw a few at air shows in the late 50'60's  (dad would take me) and memory said it wasn't gloss but near enough matt after a while in service.

If I build a 2nd kit for this build it to will be a flying wing type but this time a British design built as a back up to the Canberra

AFAIK, there was also a tailless design for a British V bomber. Not certain if it was a seperate design or an early concept for the Vulcan or Victor. Looks a bit like a Victor with the tail cut off, but a fith(!) engine installed in the tail with a dorsal intake (a bit like the XB-53).

Looks groovy! Back to the original german bomber project where Victor stole the wing.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Progress despite my "Manflu".

Just about got her assembled and she goes together very well. Despite the small size of a lot of the parts they all just click together and slot into place. The fit is very robust as well. Sometimes the "tab" and "slot" are bigger than the parts themselves. The only slight problem is removing them from the sprue and cleaning up, the plastic is very hard. Fit is that good that it has saved me some masking as I can fit a couple of the tail fins after the rest is sprayed

Hoping to get the Halford's white primer out this weekend but depends on the weather out on the balcony. Will get some pics on before I have my break

Which is more than be said about its bigger 1/72 brother.

The AMT kits are right pains to assemble in some places and need serious PSR work after assembly to avoid the 'sunken panel' look here and there.
