Hauled out one from the stash, a KP MiG-17. Oh, the humanity. Why do I buy these cheapos on a whim, thinking they'll make good whiffing material? Why, why, WHY?  :banghead:

The molds were likely made when 17's were still rolling off the assembly line  ;D

Good luck Sir!

Just make it into something that's not a MiG 17!

Tell me about it.
I have a KP Mig 21.  I passed it over in favour of an Airfix 21 thinking it'd be an easier build.
That may have been a mistake.  If time allows I'll be whiffing the KP 21 for the GB.

The original KP MiG-17 and -21 ain't THAT bad at all, even today. I built them both, many moons ago when you had to import them from beyond the Iron Curtain, and they are still part of the home exhibition as real world builds.  ;D

O.K., you get raised panels and rivets galore, but anything you can ask for is actually there, later copies of these moulds are IMHO worse.

I just had a rummage through the stash pulling stuff out and test fitting parts.
Making comparisons between A Model Yaks and KP MiG and KP comes out miles ahead.
I've also got 21s by ZTS and Bilek which have engraved panel lines.
Problem is I then got out an Eduard MiG 15 which puts all others to shame.

You inspired me to check my early russian jets.
I compared the Amodel and the Skarabeii MiG-9. the Amodel is one of the most horrible things I have seen! :o
On the other side I discovered I have THREE KP Yak-23  Maybe I should do a zwilling .

With three you could do a drilling.  ;)

My recollection of the original KP MiGs was  that all the myriad air scoops and vents came as separate parts, all  of which needed to be glued on carefully in totally inaccessible places.

Ah, that would be their MiG-19, which I built about 40 years ago. The 17 doesn't have the same affliction.

But they make a great assortment of spares. Seems to be way too many for one ac.

Someone once said "there are no bad kits, just challenges".

But just how challenged do you need to be?

I'd settle for a single and a zwilling, I'm not completely Tophed.  ;D ;D
