Been out of thew loop for a while so was wondering if anyone has done a conversion set to make the 1/72nd scale Hobbycraft AH-1Z look how it should do. The nose sensors are wrong as are the exhaust nozzles, and no doubt several other things. Would be nice to be able to build one how it actually looks.
Cheers,
Chris.

I think someone called 'Werner Wings' does stuff for AH1 but not sure what scale.....i think the chap who makes the updates (Floyd....? ) is an ex pilot.......but i may be completely wrong.....

I'm not sure there would be much use in a conversion/correction set. The Hobbycraft kit is woefully underscale, for starters. And still far away from a Zulu. It's more of a Whiskey with some Zulu parts thrown in.
And a conversion set for the Italeri Whiskey wouldn't make much sense as (apart from the canopy, gun and weapons) the Whiskey and Zulu don't have much in common with regards to outer shape. Different doghouse, different engine housing/exhaust, different wings, different tailboom, different rotors, different skids, different nose and cheek fairings.

We could really use some accurate kits of the Whiskey and Zulu in 1/72. And some late-model Army Cobras!

Absolutely correct. Nice guy and quite active in the helo section on ARC. Drove Army Cobras and Kiowa Warriors. Now police choppers, I think.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Cheers for the replies fellas. Looks like my marine corps are sticking with AH-64 and RAH-66's then, as well as some AH-1 W's

That is brilliant, I think mine might just be used as spares fodder.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

As mentioned previously, the Hobbycraft kit is horribly underscale. Closer to 1/87 HO scale than 1/72.

If you're willing to go larger, Kittyhawk does a beautiful 1/48 AH-1Z. Otherwise your best bet is to wait for a new kit in 1/72. I suspect Hobbyboss or Trumpeter will eventually kit the Zulu.
It takes only one drink to get me drunk. The trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or the fourteenth.

I thought for sure a new one would have been out by now. What about the W Huey or whatever it's called ? Maybe Italeri as I already enjoy their 412 family.

I seem to remember KH planning either the -1Z, -1Y or both in 1/72. Going by the builds of the 1/48 -1Z I've seen online I'd wait and see as it looks like a gorgeous kit.

You could do something to mess with people's heads that I've been planning but may never get around to: a Whiskey with a four-blade rotor. How you may ask? Dead easy: get a standard Whiskey kit and then get the Revell AB-212 (out at the moment) or AB-412 boxing: box boxings come with both two and four-baded rotors, so you can use the four-blader for your Cobra and still have a completely buildable -212 left over.

I'm hoping. Haven't seen any KH 1/72 releases though, everything they have released has been 1/48 or 1/32.
