Cheetah 2.0 is on the bench! Progress is fast, and I found out that the plan for this conversion must have been on the list for while because I found four(!) Heller Jaguars in the stash, each actually bought for this conversion... ;) Well, enough fodder for a maritime version, though...

Progress will be posted under the Cold War GB.

If you don't mind I'll use the "Cheetah" designation for my build, too?

I was looking at the cutaway drawing of a Jag in my Encyclopaedia of Combat Aircraft today.  Did they all have an arrestor hook?  The drawing, which purports to be a GR1 shows one.

Short answer "Yes"

It was for the airfield arresting system installed at some airfields by the RAF. I remember seeing some pictures of some aircraft, either Jaguars of Phantoms in the 70's using the system in Germany but I don't remember any details, sorry  :-\

Thanks.

To me the M's undercarriage looks completely different.

Although, to simplify things, I will probably use the original main legs.  I'll look for a replacement nose leg, and I have the wheels/tyres off the Tornado.

Many land-based NATO aircraft had and have a hook, e .g. the F-104, the F-16, even Belgian Mirage 5s.

Managed to get a bit more done this weekend.  Much sanding and a coat of paint, then found some decals. 892 sqn, "Omega"

Confirmed yes, but it was I believe a "one shot" spring loaded light duty hook, for runway emergency use. Needs to be beefed up for carrier use

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

I know it's not their "official" marking, but it was all I could find that was suitable, so I have used it with the story that they have carried on using it as a homage to the Phantom unit.
