Harriers, well sort of. What might have been

Roughly 30 years ago I decided to build every model of Harrier that existed (to that date) in 1/72nd scale. Plus a few WHIFS. I know this seems irrelevant to the Group Build but please bear with me. I recently found 3 of them and they are posted here for your amusement. The era is about right for the GB but perhaps 30 year old models have suffered too much tone entered!

The Hawker P1150/7 and P1154 were taken from drawings found in Francis K Mason's seminal work on the Harrier, I photographed the drawings and enlarged them on photo-paper (I was working as a museum photographer at the time). Please don't judge the images too harshly, I kinda rushed the pics and the lighting is full on-camera flash from, my old Kodak - UGH!

The poor P1154 has suffered most, being de-undercarriaged and the matt varnish has yellowed horribly. I should have opted the pics in black & white! Late Falklands paint scheme of course.

The real whifery was my imagining a lobster-tail 3 point supersonic Harrier replacement, forgive the battle damage, 6 house moved and degrading mulliput hasn't been kind. As with the P1154, the model is a mix of scratch and dos & ends from my spares box. If memory serves, the nose was from the Frog Jaguar, which gave you a choice of 1 or 2 seat versions. Handy.

Interesting builds, I really like the 3-poster.

And, degrading Milliput? Was it just a bad batch, or something I can "look forward to" on my Milliput-heavy builds?

I'm assuming it's age, could be poorly mixed but witha bit of remedial work I think I could rebuild them. The matt varnish on the P1154 is actually the worst point of aging, yellowed badly and so obvious on the light grey

Thanks, it was along time ago but the idea was full Reheat and Plenum Chamber Burning. I was never sure if the CoG could be right with the nose so far forward, but it was never intended to fly! Of course it was also pretty much pre-stealth days and the fuel consumption would have been a killer.

I'd love some more info on how you constructed the 1154. I really like the look of that one ! And the updated intakes on the 1150.

This could have been the fore-runner to the P.1214 & 1216 projects, which incidentally had the swiveling hot exhaust nozzle that eventually turned up on the F-35
