Elite.  I remember playing that at my mate Steve's house.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Took up a lot of my time when I was younger on my Sinclair ZX Spectrum, then again with Frontier Elite II when I had a Commodore Amiga.  There was a third instalment, Frontier: Close Encounters that didn't go down as well.

Thirty years after the first one, they've released Elite: Dangerous.  Looks visually stunning, kind of a shame I'm not into gaming any more.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Elite is featured in Francis Spuford's very excellent book , as an example of British industry and it's boffins re-emergent in new industries. It's an interesting account, and the whole book deserves a place on the bookshelves of anyone on here.

An alternative would be remove the main turret, add some form of drum container and the m.g. turrets could become flame turrets. The flame fuel carried externally so it can be jettisoned in case of damage ?

You wouldn't really need to remove the turret at all for the flamethrower tank: see the Churchill Crocodile.

Yup. Just fancy the look of the m.g. turrets plus a large fuel tank as an improvised weapon in the desert.

Mind you having remembered I have a hospital appointment next week, time may be shorter than I thought

I've got that one, good book. I do like the original ships from the Elite series, a great example of 'make do and mend' using what little processing power to good effect.

Well not only have I a hospital appointment on Tuesday I now have one on Wednesday as well. This one is a preliminary to let me know what some farther tests will involve so I'm not sure I'll get anything done during this GB. I'll start something Sunday and then just see how it goes.

I won't be entering 1WGB16 but will for fun only carry on with last year's Corsair GR.1, with pics to follow.  No building this weekend (visiting Mum), earliest maybe Monday evening.

I found inspiration for a new build from PR19_Kit in a thread here, and then I find out I actually have time to take part in this build! I'm in!

Only too glad to help out.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Just over 24 hours to go for European builders - don't forget to post finished builds in the 'Finished Builds and Vote' area.
