Whiffing an F-105?

While groping around in The Loft I came across a Hasegawa F-105 kit. What a MONSTER of an aeroplane it is, the darn thing's the same length as a Canberra and it's only a single seater.  :o

Having trawled the Forum for ideas I've rejected an RAF F-105K, that's been done more than once, and I've seen sketches of swing wing Thuds and delta Thuds, neither of which appeal, so does anyone else have any ideas of how you could Whiff a Thud?

It has to retain some semblance of those awesome Feri intakes of course, otherwise it wouldn't BE a Thud.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

US navy carrier based Thud perhaps.

Israeli rather than passing over F-4E they get the F105, interesting camo schemes.

Same could go for NATO users, passed over to Greece, Turkey, Portugal etc.

Australian for use in Vietnam maybe ?

Well Canada's RCAF had preferred the F-105 powered by an Orenda Iroquois engine but the government of the time went for the F-104 instead

4/6 seat staff transport?
Or, dare I say it, give it longer wings as a high altitude recon bird?

Perhaps in the anti-shipping role for a Thud with a difference so maybe Marineflieger with Kormorans or JASDF with early Harpoons or perhaps Greek with Martels/Sea Eagles for a spot of fishing against the Black Sea Fleet when it tries to break out (in Aegean Blue?).

Cruise missile conversion? Its not un-Snark-like.

North Yemeni recce bird gifted to keep a watchful eye on Socotra?

Surplus Vietnam veteran gifted to Pakistan after the Indians tangle with Enterprise in the Bay of Bengal in 1971?

I'm a bit of a Thud Threak 😊

Sorry, one more just popped into my head. P&W T57 engined Thundershriek for one last go at a supersonic turboprop.

How about a STOL Thud with lift engines replacing the centre-fuselage fuel tanks and exhausting via the former bomb bay?

OR

SSTO Thud with two small jet engines in the wing roots fed by the Ferris and a MAHOOSIVE rocket motor in place of the J-75?

Vietnam war ends in 1968. Enough Thuds still exist in good enough condition to pass them over the Israel as the USAF re-equips with the F-4E & F-111.

Long-range anti-ship F-105 with a big missile in the weapons bay and large drop tanks,
tanks are used for the trip out, dropped for the attack run so the machine is in a completely
clean configuration for max on the deck speed.
A bit of a Q-ship when sitting on the ramp.  ;D

Go one further and convert the whole aircraft into a cruise missile, with fuel in the bay, a nuke in place of the cockpit, and two huge ZELL boosters.

I've seen one whiff with F-15 wings.
I agree on the intakes. One of the most distinctive features of the Thud.

Israeli strike or Marineflieger anti ship role would be intesting.

Jeepers, so many ideas over one night, I'm seriously impressed, thanks very much gentlemen.

The long winged recce bird was almost predictable, thanks JayBee  ;D, and I like the idea of the IDAF version. Indeed, I'm surprised it didn't happen in the RW. And the ant-ship version sounds good too, so many ideas, but I've only got one kit, or I think I have anyway.  ;D

My first thought too (but Kit had ruled it out already before I made my first suggestion). However the reason I was going to suggest it is because in the latest Air-Britain AeroMilitaria, there's a short article about a proposal that Republic made to the UK Government for an RAF F-105F. The main gist of it is as a trainer, for prospective TSR-2 crew using as much TSR-2 equipment as possible, then there's a tactical strike aircraft and even in a stripped down condition as a fighter. Also there was consideration to use the Olympus engine -----

Captain Canada

I'd support an F-105 GB ! Love that aeroplane and have had an idea on the backburner forever. I had the kits acquired as well, but ended up giving some parts away to a former member whom isn't around anymore....can't even recall which one it's been so ling.

A navalized example would certainly be neat to see as well. Maybe with a RR and a RWR on the tail.
