OK, this is going to be my primary build for this GB.

Mostly OoB with a few detail bits & a scheme based loosely on PantherG's RAAF scheme.

What I'm starting with:

Boxed immediately after this photo was taken:

In a scheme loosely based on these:

Quite a striking colour scheme........have you any idea what manufacturer paints and respective numbers you will use...?

Not exactly the same colours & only 3 of them, with the intermediate blue wrapping around onto the undersides.

I'm using Lifecolor acrylics for all of them;

UA 052 (FS 34079) Dark Green
UA 045 (FS 35164) Non-Specular Intermediate Blue
UA 044 (FS 35042) Non-Specular Sea Blue

I went with the UA 052 because:
a) my preferred supplier didn't have UA 008 (FS 34092) Medium Green 1942 in stock;
b) FS 34092 didn't look close enough to Australian foliage greens but UA 052 does look reasonably close to one version, &;
c) I had it in stock in my paint drawer.

Always a good reason I find  ;D

Lifecolor do two sets of "authentic" RAAF WWII colours. Got them both and they have come in very handy and continue to do so.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to find the foliage green (UA 514) as an individual colour & I don't really want the set (although I may buy it in the future, if I feel I need more than 1 colour).

I just popped into the model room to see what the number was on the Foliage Green but as you say they have used a number that, as far as I can tell, is not available individually.

I like Lifecolor as a paint so have a few of their sets. The Italian one is very useful.

Thanks for the info and for taking the time to reply...... :thumbsup:

Movement: miniscule
Satisfaction: high (with acheived goals)

Yep, I've only really done the engine but I'm happy with the results.

I'm using an Eduard detailing set for the cockpit &, as this is the 1st time I've ever tried this kind of thing, I'm struggling with the level of forward planning it involves.

Still, ya gotta try to learn. :thumbsup:

Since my last post on the F4D-1P Spyray I've put it aside & returned to this build, finally confronting my fear of all the fiddly little detaily Eduard PE I bought for the cockpit (This is my 1st use of this level of PE detailing sets).

So far ... Not too bad! :lol:

I've found that PE pieces of all sizes will ping off into the wild blue yonder for no apparent reason & some of the placement indicators are a bit too vague (I've spend 3 hours of the last 3 days modelling time hunting down wayward parts <Haven't lost one .... Yet!> & about 1.5 hours juggling 2 pieces so that they look OK because the instruction positions are impossible to replicate).

Overall, I must say I'm highly impressed with the detail (although some elements do lack a bit of depth) & the unexpected ease with which they go together, especially the 2-part instrument panels.

Anyway, photo's sometime in the next few days, I think.

I use the Eduard 1/72 Zoom PE sets on some of my builds, at least I use the bits you will see (or I can see  :o) and I cut them from the frame inside a clear plastic bag of the sort they come in but a little larger. If the do ping then they stay in the bag unless it's really not your day.

If you like the Eduard instrument panels then have a look at the Yahu one piece ones. No assembly, inexpensive and really do just slot into place. I've only used the 1/72 ones but they are a very simple improvement to a most kits.

Here's the 1/48 ones

TWO nice tips in ONE post. Thanks a lot. Will try to emember and follow. :thumbsup:

So, photo's of the cockpit. There are quite a few of them & they show how appalling my build of this is - up really, really close. With normal eyeball view it looks pretty good - a bit rough in spots due to fit problems & those damned vague instructions, again.

Anyway, here are the pic's:

It's all been wrapped up, now, as I've glued the fuselage together &, hopefully, things will move a little faster.
