After a few more tests... i'm a bit divided, it looks good anyway i look at it... ;D

But while i'm still choosing the final layout, i'll start working on the rest, the cockpit should look good all painted up.

The intake will have the duct made out of Evergreen sheet to hide the front landing gear bay, i cut off those round bits to make it easier to place the duct over it

So, there's enough to do to keep me busy till i choose the final look of the thing...

Nice Idea the  F16 XL

All beauties! I love your Viper family! Lepti, the first one on this last post is the first design of the F-16W, right? ;D
And that RAF F-16XL is simply gorgeous! Guess Jaybee can go for the XLI Sufa now... although i have seen a few of those around the web, here's one from 2009, G-man's work on ARC:

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal9/8901-9000/gal8910-F-16-G-Man/00.shtm

And i also don't understand why we don't see more XLs built... Leptiprince has shared Lonestar Resin Parts' email quite a few times, and the first time he did so on here, was over a year ago, plenty of time for people to see it...
Why are people waiting to find a Monogram oldie, instead of emailing Lonestar Resin Parts, who make excellently detailed conversions of both variants?
Since i heard of these conversion sets, i bought a few and if i'd known about Lonestar earlier, i wouldn't have paid over 50€ for my first Monogram XL, that's enough for the conversion set to be delivered from Japan and i'd still have money left for the Hasegawa F-16A/B kit needed to complete the conversion...
If you like the XL so much, email Yukio Kanesawa and buy'em like we did...

Hi

50 Dollars for Xl Monogram is expensive, I found that for 20 CHF I will make a new what if. I have some project like this, I have studied how to add the SU34. I'll leave in single reactor

Yes, 50 € is too much to pay for it, but i had been searching for over a year and that was the cheapest i found at the time... Although i didn't say it was in a job lot of 3 kits, all Monogram, a 1/48 P-40B, which i'm almost finished building, a 1/48 Spitfire Mk.IXc and the F-16XL.
I've seen that profile and the one of the 4 seat Viper, that will be a beast!

Actually the initial idea was a scale-o-rama of a two seater (side by side) involving a 1/72 F-16XL and a 1/48 F-16 cockpit. ;D

Trying out something different...

After what i went through to finish the F-16W with all the putty involved, this should be a piece of cake!

I've been having second thoughts and after going through most of the XL's models i could find on the web, i realized that this hasn't been done, at least i couldn't find a Stealth XL so i have found my way...
Using paper card, i cut out the sections i needed just to see if my thoughts were correct, no measurements were made but i'm pretty sure it's doable...
As you can see in the pic, i'm going to eliminate the chin intake and put 2 on the sides of the front fuselage. It might not come out with all the Stealth requirements of a true 5th gen fighter but will have a small weapons bay to carry as much as the F-35 carries internally. and with a recent engine, it should be able to supercruise... ;D

The intakes will sit a bit further as will the DSI, this was just to see if it's possible to scratch-build the new underside. I've also been thinking about the In the Navy GB, and that this could be a good candidate...

Somehow, that reminds me of MBB Lampyridae. Maybe it's the nose?

Well, i agree, but i think it's only from this angle, the whole thing looks too bulky with the paper card but it will be sleeker than that. The idea is to have the nose section almost like the Raptor's, same intake location and geometry but with the DSI lumps like on the F-35.
I would like to ask the In The Navy GB mods to migrate this topic to the proper location, sorry about this but the decision was made today... ;D
To make this carrier capable, i'll have to scratch-build landing gear bays and use the gear of the Hobbyboss F-18D i'm building in flight mode.
As long as there's plastic sheet around the house, it should be ok. Now, i can't wait for the GB to start!

Single tail for me. But it's definitely hard to choose when they all look so good !

Totally right, Captain, the XL is such a beautiful design, it looks good in almost any configuration. I've been trying to choose if it will have one or 2 tails but i'm still divided... Going by Stealth requirements, single vertical tail is abolished, but by what the F-16's designers and team found back in wind-tunnel tests was that it had better handling characteristics than the twin tails, that's why i tried them on them out on the wing pods.
And then there's the Navy factor... what kind of a story would i make up to justify the XL going to sea? It wasn't even chosen for land based use...
Maybe if the development of the F-18 was cancelled, the navy would be more willing to have the Viper, but only the XL variant because of it's longer range and ordnance capacity... Then, with all the delays on the JSF program, the stealth XL would be an evolution of the original XL, much like the Super bug being the successor of the Legacy Hornet...
Well, that doesn't seem too bad for a back story, does it?

I like the Super Bug analogy.
Whatever.
