Having recently bought and received the Eiriksson 1/600 Waterline model of the Ark Royal (R09) I remembered that the plans I had for this were to build her as if she had the full refit she was supposed to have had back between 1967 and the beginning of 1970.

Parts will be scratch built or stolen from other 1/600 kits other than the aircraft which I will have to buy. Gannets, Buccaneers and Phantoms and possibly Sea Kings and Wessex.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Atlantic Models PE doors and the their Devenshire sets should give PE Double Bedsteads. Note there is no details on the stern, so the rear will need to have platforms and details added.

Aircraft wise I would see what you can get Shapeways wise, the Metal ones included in the kit are a bit naff and all unfolded

Cool. I`d love to see this and let us know how you make out a/c wise !

No aircraft in my boxing of the kit Thorvic and I have already looked at Shapeways for aircraft. Thanks for the tip on the PE too.

I got mine off eBay for the princely sum of £30, well chuffed at the price considering that most of the ship is solid resin.

Looks like the basic ship will be the cheapest part of this build. Spent quite a bit more buying mainly aircraft from Shapeways. 3D printing is very nice but comes at a price  :o

I have ordered

Buccaneers; Phantom's (J's which will get converted into K's); Gannets (mix of ASW and AEW. ASW will become COD); Wessex & Sea Kings

I also ordered an update set for a County class Destroyer all from Shapeways

Also ordered from Atlantic models is a PE set for a County class Destroyer and a fret of doors and hatches

This should be a fun/frustrating build

Good theory !

I've joined Shapeways and am looking into placing my first order. Who is the maker of the bits you have ordered ?

Captain, there were several makers that I have ordered from. I simply did a search for the scale that I wanted and trawled for hours through all the pages of stuff. When I found something I liked the look of, as there could be more than one producer of any item, I bookmarked it and then went back later and compared all the things I had found.
Long laborious and tedious too but worth it in the end.

Thanks for the tip. It certainly is a long and laborious search eh ? really hard to tell what is the 'good stuff' from digital previews as well.
