That's a nice picture Spinners, my build will be similar but different. Spent five minutes with a sanding stick tonight, Saturday/Sunday, and managed to rough out the shape. I now know roughly which areas need attention which I hope to address later in the day.

My favourite Tempest has always been the Griffon-powered Mk.III/Fury prototype.

Chris

I have plans and parts to build one of those as well.

Gondor

Actually Chris, that's the Sabre 7 powered Fury.  This below is the Griffon/Fury

I've got a Tempest Mk.III on the go, started with a Lanc nacelles which I was going to revise a bit (as seen in the photo here), but after I started it, read something in an old 'The Aeroplane' book (might have been a 'Flight' book, anyway, it was a book with cutaways of aircraft and engines published about 1948) that showed me that what was described to me was really a Firefly Mk.I power-egg.

This is how the Griffon engined Tempest Mk.III was described to me, and yes, I was told the drawing that had been found showed full elliptical wings. Mind you, the five-blade prop was my interpretation.

This is my Sabre 7 engined Fury I also have on the go.

If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Actually managed to get a bit of work done on this the other day. Just need to mask the cockpit before I give it a shot of primer to see what needs additional work.

Finally managed to get some paint onto where the work has been carried out. Progress is slow but something is getting done.

As the saying goes, "It'll be done in time for Christmas", never saying which christmas  ;)

You do realise I started this over six months ago?

Gondor

It IS a promising start, if measured on a glacial scale anyway.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I managed to look over the dried paint and there is not much work to be done which means I should be able to get on with this build to help clear space on the modelling bench for the Israeli Su-27 I am building.

...a promising start at the time, the completion of which I am awaiting patiently?

Work on the propeller and prop shaft has started. As the kit would have you sandwich the completed propeller assembly between the fuselage halves and as there was a lot of work to be carried out around the nose area I decided against the advised construction method. So I had to devise a method of making sure That the propeller would be able to stay in place despite the short length of shaft provided.

Here is what I have come up with

I and others have used variations on what I am doing before and needless to say will do again. The metal rod will act as a pin between the propeller shaft, I have already drilled the hole in the shaft in this picture, the longer and thinner of the two plastic tubes will then be glued onto the existing shaft and the inserted pin which will extend the length of the propeller shaft. I didn't trust a straight forward butt joint for this, hence the metal pin. The larger diameter plastic tube will be inserted into the nose of the Tempest once I have drilled the existing hole to a size able to accommodate it and which I hope will be square which may mean I will have to come up with some jig to hold everything square  :banghead:

I have also decided that I should add radiator flaps to the rear of the leading edge radiators

So more filling and sanding to come. Almost forgot, I also added the tailplanes too  ;D

Very nice work going on here, i'll have to save that method for the prop.
