I do not like the layout of this proposal, it too much like BTS which I find annoying.

You can change the look on BtS, we left those options open to the users. Just go to Modify Profile-> Look and Layout and set it the
way you prefer. Pretty simple.

I'm inclined to agree with JayBee.

The new site has all the information of course, it just seems to take up a lot of space on the screen.

The theme set as default is optimised for touch and mobile as well as desktops. It works pretty well on typical high resolution screens (many phones now have higher res than your full HD TV) but yes, its a little large on small screens or low resolutions. The test logo I whipped up is also too large.

If you click on "Profile", "Look and Layout Settings" you can choose the default "Curve" theme which is more optimised for small, low resolution screens.

Many websites these days have 50% or more of visitors using mobile devices, so its foolish to ignore the demographic. Its hard to get a single theme that works well on every device. At this stage, nothing is decided.

Just to back this up, you should see the pages and pages of advice on Twitter and Youtube about optimising your home page banner and artwork so that they work on every different device. It's mind blowing, particularly if you don't have those devices to test it on.

I definitely prefer the Curve theme to the default 'Seller' one. However on the Beta forum it's showing on my screen with space-wasting borders around it whereas on here it's edge-to-edge. Using CTRL +/- to enlarge/reduce it doesn't change the borders, so I effectively have less screen width on the Beta than I have now. Is there some way to change this in settings?

*BTS has these borders too, but they're much narrower, so it's obviously possible to change them.

I agree too. Big avatars, borders etc, reduce the space for the relevant text and photos.

I'm off to bed soon (been working on this for 4 hours after a day at work!).

I'm not done customising the look, feel, logos etc, also there is additional work before email notifications etc are working.

I unlocked the forum! Let the lunatics back in

I am aware it looks a lot like Secret Projects at present - this is due to Secret Projects looking a lot like the default look for SMF 2.0.

Will try to jazz it up a bit tomorrow after I have some sleep :)
