Testing a modification to place user avatars on index pages. Thoughts?

I don't like it as it reduces the number of threads I see on my screen and means more scrolling (oh the effort!).

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I've altered permissions so that new users first posts must be approved by an admin.

This means any spammers that register must make at least one post which sounds plausible and on-topic enough to convince an admin. I've found this is a pretty good way to block spammers.

If any users with more than 1 post find they can't post without approval now, let me know.

Anyone else have an opinion?

FWIW, I prefer a cleaner page, wthout too many cluttering elements.
On the other side, I have seen that in the final version, the enormous avatars of the test one have been reduced to a manageable size, much better.
Thanks again for all the work you're doing in the migration and all the associated issues.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I agree.   I usually browse the forum using unread posts and new replies, so having avatars on the main forum doesn't worry me too much.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Avatars at the current size won't take up too much space and can add a useful visual cue, so I'd say leave them in.

My Hat feels a bit squished inside the new circular avatar.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I have to be honest.  I *REALLY* dislike the avatars on the update posts page.  Very distracting and makes it hard to read.

Been browsing around a bit and I have to say that I like what I see so far.  I have no problems with the avatars showing up next to posts or anywhere else on this updated site. I actually like it and it makes it easier to see who posted what. Sometimes, I recognise a person not only from their name, but also from their avatar.
I also like the list of "Recent Posts" down in the What If Info Center. Makes it easier to see what's newly posted.   +1
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Four new smileys :sleepy: :police:    The 'sleepy' one doesn't work for me: I just get the word. On another forum I used to go on which I think used the same software (can't check 'cos it's gone now), you had a dozen or so basic smileys on the normal 'post reply' screen, then a load more exotic/specialised ones on a pop-up 'insert' menu. I always though that was a good system: it gave you the wide choice if you wanted it but it didn't clutter the 'post reply' screen up.

Something I can't check: is it now easier for new people to register for the forum? It used to be very difficult: I've had people asking me on BTS to PM mods for me to get them approved, which is not ideal. I wonder how many potential members we've lost who just couldn't be bothered?

Re the circular avatars, if you use other social media platforms it's to your advantage to get an avatar that works with both the square and circular formats because the latter is used by a lot of them. To my knowledge, Youtube, Google+ and Twitter use it, and others may do too. It's the main reason I re-did my chaos arrow to it's current format.

Yep, I tried to fix that last night but it didn't work, will take a look later.

Yes, registration is open again and also guests can view the forums. Should encourage new signups.

It's a feature of the mod which adds them to the index pages. Might need a poll to see numbers for or against?
