Don't take the plans as gospel especially if they are downloaded copies. I don't recall Rob saying the nose was too short in the kit and that's the sort of stuff he would know first hand.

It could be that the Korean ones really were 2 ft longer.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

That's not a drawing of the Korean one however.

Anyway checked with Rob and Airfix used BAE CAD drawing from Brough so I suspect your drawings are suspect.

Couple of things, Yes I know its not a drawing of the Korean version, it is however the same as the kit I am working from so I am working on the hypothesis that if that drawing is correct then the small drawing for the nose of the Korean version elsewhere on the sheet should be correct as well.

Second thing is that I don't know who the Rob your referring to is. I suppose I could always drop Airfix an email asking them, or BAe for that matter, to find out the dimensions of the aircraft.

Something's not right. Either Airfix or Mr Rolfe got the length of the nose wrong  :banghead:

I'm pretty sure the Airfix 1/72 Hawks were done from drawings supplied by BAE Systems.

In simple terms "Rob" is the leader of the Hawk/AJT sig and his day job is as a flight test engineer at Warton......................On Hawks's
I think he knows them a bit better than anyone else in the model world. If he says the current Airfix kit is accurate, im minded to beleave him.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

I shall contact him then as the pedantic in me wants to make sure its right or wrong.

Well yes, however most of mine I prefer to base on something realistic or true such as interest shown by a country for an aircraft but then buying something else instead.

I went back and looked at the scale pic, and you're right, that is rather noticeable. Even looking at pics on the web it appears that the kit nose is really short.

Pretty sure the drawings are wrong. Here's a quick and dirty overlay of the Airfix parts on a RAAF Hawk. Even though they're not properly aligned, it's immediately obvious that Airfix did a good job.
Any discrepancies are down to my MS Paint skills. In a another program that allows you to rotate the pic and size it more accurately, I feel the kit parts would align perfectly.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Captain Canada

Wow. That's neat, never seen that act before excellent !

I gad another look at the drawings I have. The difference in nose length appears to be the only issue that I will have to contend with. The main reason I got the drawings was for the radar equipped Korean versions nose dimensions and position.  The dimensions of the nose at its tip match both for drawing and kit so the drawings is ok for me to use for the radar tip  Other than that the drawings will make a nice backdrop for taking pictures of models  ;D

I got the Model Alliance decals set for the On Target Book 3 from Thorvic yesterday. This gives me decals for eight or nice operators which should keep me busy for a bit.
