So with getting my mojo back for at least a couple of days I have done what most modellers do and that is reach for a new kit regardless of how many are sitting around part started or finished

With having won at a very nice price one of the fairly recent Airfix kits, as below,

I thought I would get to work of the three of them that I have in the stash along with the Model Alliance BAe Hawk 115/127 boxing of the Italeri Hawk 100 kit.

The model Alliance Hawk kit has decals for both the RAAF LIFT 127 Hawk and the CAF CT-155 Hawk so that boxing will be one of those while one of my Airfix kits will be the other. I am also intending to build one of the Airfix kits as an Indian Air Force machine while the third kit in my stash will be a Finish example and as such will be a whiff. The new kit when it arrives will be an RAF machine in the Red and White scheme with the grey wings, maybe the version with the Blue spine and fin or even a Raspberry Ripple example as I have Xtradecal set X72166 BAe Hawk T.Mk.1 which covers all the schemes up to the introduction of the all over Black scheme so I have lots of choices. Time will tell which scheme I decide on.

After a little research I am thinking that this could turn out to be quite a large number of builds if I include all the real world aircraft operators of the Hawk 100 series that I am thinking of. To that end getting hold of the Model Alliance decal sheet MA72-115 would be a great help so if anyone finds one somewhere let me know as it will provide a heck of a lot of real world options and the possibility of using them for whifs too as how many people really know what version of Hawk the Saudi Air Force operates?

A little work has been done recently. The cockpits painted and decals applied, on my Airfix kits at least, the detail painting of the cockpits of the Italeri kit might end up using spare decals from the Airfix kits but I don't know yet. Last night the wheel wells and the insides of the undercarriage doors were painted so there may be some rapid progress to report as all this prep work bares fruit.

Sorry to barge in here, but I desperately need some help.  For the life of me I cannot figure out how to add pictures to my posts even after trying all the help available.  I did notice that I do not have any "attachments" option when I try to start a new topic or reply to anyone.  Can someone shed some light on this?  Do I need some sort of permission to add pictures?  I do not know how to contact the moderator for help either.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There should be some help threads around here somewhere. Basically you need to post an IMG link from an external picture hosting site. One way to find out how pictures are posted is to "quote" a posting and then look at how the message is displayed.

Ah, I see, Gondor.  Rather awkward.  I quoted your post above and see how this is done.  thanks.

There is also a way to make the picture a certain size, something to do with the IMG code, but I don't know what it is and prefer to edit my pictures myself prior to putting them on a picture hosting site.

Its a bit of work to upload first to the host site then to copy the code to your post, however the site does not have infinite storage so all the pictures getting uploaded per week would soon fill up the server. It works which is the main thing.

Right here's how to do it using Photobucket. You can use other photo hosting sites. We had to get pictures hosted off site as it was just taking up way to much "bandwidth" or whatever it's called. http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,32096.0.html

Any problems drop me a P.M.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

I've switched to using facebook for mine. Easier then PB and you don't have to add storage or create secondary accounts. I just have an album titles 'plastic' and changed the security to 'only me', so they don't show up on my user profile there.

Open the pic on FB, copy it, use the image icon here, paste, voila !

As the thread opened on my computer the first thing I saw was the first picture. In half and sure enough with twin Sidewinders it looked like a X-Wing...

I see what you mean. The wing tip and outer wing pylons with their sidewinders do give that impression.

Nice ! Now I won't be able to look at it without seeing an X-wing lol. But you are right !

So one of the aircraft will be the ROKAF version which has a small radome at the forward end of its nose. OK I think to myself, how far back is the join line for the radome, what is the diameter?
Well after several searches on the internet I found a set of drawings by Mark Rolfe, a well known and trusted person known for the sets of drawings has has done of various aircraft for various well known publications.
So once I printed out ans then adjusted the print scale a couple of times so that the scale on the drawing matched my scaled ruler I placed the fuselage of one of the kits against the drawings.....

Oh dear  :-\

Something's not right. Either Airfix or Mr Rolfe got the length of the nose wrong  :banghead:

Not going to adjust the nose as that would be way too much work and I am planning on building quite a few of these too so its not practical from a scratch building point of view. The kit is only a rough two scale foot short at the nose, the Italeri kit is about the same too!

Going to have to think a little about this
