or one at the end of each boom?

They wouldn't be big enough: two small aerials don't equal one big one in radar tech unfortunately.

Here's a thought though:

270 deg scan search radar in the nose
90 deg scan fire-control radar in the tail
CW illuminator aerials in each tail boom
AAMs with boosters in the cargo bay, firing backwards through launch tubes underneath the aft radome

The Argosy sees the incoming raid on the front radar, turns away, locks on with the aft radar, then launches salvoes of AAMs towards it, guided by the CW aerials...

A BAe 146 with those radomes, perhaps...?

It was looked at, according to the book The Air Staff and the AEW (page 42)

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Another idea could be based on the Lockheed C-141 Starlifter. Roden does the 1/144 scale model.
I think there was a proposal for the Jetstream and HS125, the Andover and BAC 1-11, Trident airliner.
The 1/144 kit might fit into a 1/48 Canberra.
There's the An-12 and Tu-95 Bear.

   waever I wasn't suggesting any reduction in the Radome size
I think that's why Kit was laughing
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront

The first printed dome will go on this Comet AEW prototype. Modifying the Airfix Comet 4, adding vents and other gubbins.

(if it seems I'm really prolific all of a sudden: I'm just catching up on a backlog of projects I've finished over the past 2 years but never showed photos of)

That's looking really promising Harro.

Will this one have the tail radome as well, or is that for a later version?

I've got a Nimrod AEW (an Anigrand clone) with really incorrect domes. I'll replace those when I get the CAD for the rear dome finished.

This one will be built as XW626, the trials aircraft which only had a front radome.

McColm

Looks impressive, might try using your radomes on the IL-78 Midas and the Boeing 737-800.

Captain Canada

Nice one Harro ! Looks great so far. I love the look of those Nimrods.

I've been working on the rear dome today. It's getting close, but I just had a crash that took out 2 hours of work

I feel for you Harro  :-\
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I got the drawings done over the christmas break, and the first sample has arrived:

Had that happen to me once before while working on AutoCad, lost all I had done for two-three hours. After that I reset my autosave to 5mins.
