Is there a Fritz-X conversion for the Italeri 1/72 Do 217?
Or also for the Do 217 - an extended wing/DB 603 kit?

I recall that - way back in the last century - there was a K-nose conversion kit for the Airfix Do 217E..

I like the under-rated Do 217, probably the best performing regular 'medium bomber' of WW2.

I guess I could try & get hold of the night-fighter version & swap engines with the bomber's BMW 801's.

Does anyone know why the BMW was built as a 'power egg' ( as per the Merlin/Hercules for Beaufighter/Lancaster) but the DB 603 wasn't?
The Do 217, Me 410, & He 219 all had individual & very different installations.. ( & why did the Do 217 get a 4-blade prop, but the others didn't?)

Why do the conversion when Italeri re-released their 70s K but with a new sprue containing longer wingtips and Fritz X missiles?  May be a little difficult to find but they definitely did it as I remember having one!  It may well still be in me Mam's loft.

Besides which, the Italeri 217s were largely the same plastic but with different sprues for the DB603 or BMW 801 and were interchangable, so much so that Italeri themselves did it and did a few more into the bargain with some new tooled bits.

The bulk of Italeri 217s on ebay right now are the M.  Plus some K-1s and a few Ns.  They did an E, J and M fairly recently, chopping and changing their own sprues.

Trust me, the bulk of Luftwaffe conversion bits have largely been covered.

Done by Odds & Ordnance ad now available via AlleyCat models

Thanks Geoff, although as Tan Models has just announced a new 1/48 scale Buccaneer, a conversion in 1/48 scale might be in order.

Someone, somewhere already does a Bucc recce 'bomb door' in resin, as I've got one. I thought it came from Colin though.........

It was done by Paul in the Model Alliance range, he offered it to me but I never took it up. There is a very nice one in the Odds & Ordinance range still available from AlleyCat.

Thanks for clearing that up Colin, mine is just a casting that's taped onto the bottom of a Bucc fuselage.  ;D ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Stumbled across the  Vickers Wellington B Mk V (type 442) high altitude aircraft. Is this too difficult to mould or not something you would consider as a conversion?

Just found out that Unicraft do a conversion in 1/72 scale. I read the reviews and this conversion has some issues due to warping.

The Mk V?
Unicraft do a conversion kit.

How about a Westland W30 conversion to go with a Lynx kit?

That answers the question as to why there should be a new conversion.  Expensive, badly moulded, ill fitting, aerated cack.

You could also do the Lynx 3 with its revised deeper tail

The Lynx Wildcat would be nice but its a lot more work

Coincidentally I to was thinking of the high altitude Wellingtons the other day and then remembered the Unicraft conversion. After I'd recovered from that horrible thought I wondered it there were any other conversions available ?

In resin it would be big, heavy and expensive I would have thought ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
