I came up with me second whif for the old school kit GB. A Yak 9 done up as a flight display team team leader livery!  Either that or a racer... still working out the details on the transfer decals.

Also, trying desperately to come up with a way to replace the missing windscreen on my U2A then I'll be doing that, as well.

As a certified Old Git with more than a few Old kits the choice is huge.

I have settled for a troublesome kit - an old bagged Fiat G-91 that was missing its undercarriage. I comes with a stand though so I'm going to do it wheels up and I'm thinking straight wings

LOL!

And that sounds good! The Yak I just mentioned above is also a bagged airfix kit.     Full disclosure... I didn't even know bagged kits were a thing at all until this year. I haven't been back in the hobby long and last time I was was in the mid 90s before the internet really got underway.

The description "bagged kit" can mean either one sold by the manufacturers in a bag with a piece of card stapled to the top (Airfix, Frog and probably others did this) or one sold second hand in a bag because the box has been torn, soaked, eaten by termites (seriously, i've bought a couple that this allegedly happened to) etc.

Ahh yeah! True enough. I've bought some of those, as well. I've also seen a few bagged kits that never had a box to begin with. Like.....left overs from the factory or whatever. Sitting around in some crate that never made it into a box. Usually being sold a few at a time. Those are cool sometimes because getting them in bunches can save some money if you want a bunch of the same model. Another form of the "bagged kit" I've come across are the ones where someone bought the kit, trimmed all the pieces, and either threw away or cut up the box top and stuffed it all into a zip lock back. I have an F-107 like that.   (that's going to be a sweet build... a pretty strange jet).

Some people look at stuff like that and say, "I'll pass..."  Not me. One has to see the beauty "beyond the box.  "

Not surprised one bit about the termites. I have first hand experience with them chewing up cardboard. Close enough to wood I guess..and I suppose cardboard is mainly wood pulp anyway, isn't it?

I have a Yak 9 in it's second 'picture' bagging mid to early 1964 (number 31 coming in to land) rather than the earlier 'Red Stripe' outline picture.

Sad thing is I was given a 'New' Airfix Yak 9 starter kit and sadly 50 years on it is the same kit  :o

I've been pondering my second build for this GB.
I want it to be a car but have been having trouble deciding which one.
Whilst having a rummage I pulled out one of these and a quick check of the instructions gives the date of issue as 1985.

I bought it in a  now closed shop we used to refer to as "Smokey Bob's" (sniff the box and you can still tell why!).
My plan for it has always been to build one of these.

It's a Ford Sierra XR8.  A Sierra XR6 fitted with a 5 litre V8 from a Mustang.  Ford South Africa built 250 examples in 1984ish.
If I do it it'll be a Whiff because the real things were 4 doors and the Tamiya kit is a two door.

That should be NO problem to a man of your calibre Fred.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Can anyone nail down the issue date for the Arii Otaki J2M3 Raiden kit...scalemates give 198*, and no other site I can find mentions it. Looks nice and I'd like a go as I never went wrong with one of theirs.

I gave it my best shot... doesn't seem to be much info out there.

I ran across this captured one, though, built with the Arii kit nd just thought I'd share the picture for the heck of it:

I still can't find anything..  I'm wracking my brain trying to find stuff now like copy-write dates etc...  No hits at all for "arii" or "otaki".

1/72nd or 1/48th?

This site reckons mid-1960s for the 1/72nd version.

The Otaki 1/48 kits date from the late 60s through the mid 70s.
The Arii reboxings came much later.
