;D ;D ;D   I didn't realize!! I would have mocked them up. It does make an interesting idea... those new big giant engines... what are they?? One is a GE-90 or something and I know an even slightly bigger one is/was in development?...  I bet one could easily power this thing but then there goes all the over-water certs.  ;D

Forgot about making plans. I'm going to cut the model building short today. I need a break from it. Not that I've lost interest, I just don't like to do too much of anything for too long to avoid burnout. This was also spurred on by the GOUT trying to attack my knee!  It's easier to sit in one place with video games whereas models has me getting up out of my chair quite often. NO MORE BEEF JERKY FOR ME.  :banghead:  Funny thing is, I said to myself, "Boy, I hope this doesn't give me the gout."  ;D

I'm getting ahead of it, however... it woke me up out of my sleep last night which I was actually grateful for because I knew what was coming and was able to take my "emergency" gout medication so it's not nearly as bad as it could be right now. Also... tons of water. Flush this uric acid out and dial back my red meat. I also had a bowl of chili yesterday that I forgot about eating. I would have never had the jerky if I didn't forget that I had chili.  :banghead:

Boring boring boring... but anyway...  this means I'm going to do little with the models but I DO want to put on the second coat of liquid decal mask and might attempt to put some of them on. I don't know, though. I'm not sure I want to deal with the nose portion so I'll probably save that for another day.

Actually did a little more than I planned. I figured I'd do all I could until I reached a point where I would need to get up.  ;D  Would have to get up to get my bowl to fill it with water to put these on so that's where I drew the line. On to Mass Effect!

But first.... like I said, I did more than just put the decal film on. I also trimmed them out and cut my relief slits into the nose section. I did this last time, too, but I added an additional one this time and trimmed the upper one wider. They'll wrap better this way and if I have any gaps I'll used some of the "gap fill" color splotches on the sheet.

Found another reference photo as well. I have a copy of this closer to its original size (it's an old post card) but this one was enlarged at least double. I shrunk it back down to post here but I have the full size copy on my desktop for later use.

My stuff as of now:

Oh boy, I can't wait to see the transfers on this one.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Same here! Who knows if it'll ever happen, though.  ;D  But aren't those the best colors?!

No actual model work plans today. Today I'm back to the kit stash organization. I'm nearly through with the military side so it's time to get that organized, vacuum some more, then start on Heathrow.

I have to agree, that's a very good looking scheme.

Could very well be my favorite airliner livery!   Tomorrow I think I'll actually try to put these on. Let's hope it works this time and we have something to look at!

So, with the exception of a couple scraps here and there I've finished re-orginazing the stash and deep cleaning the hell out of the entire place. There's a pile of stuff behind me that I don't really count. A mess of civil 1/72 light aircraft and a bunch of albatrosses (jet kind) and some other stuff back there and of course a lot of my large kits like some of the Galaxies, 747s, 1/72 B-52, and other things like Star Trek and sci fi kits and space shuttles blah blah blah are all crammed under my bed. BUT.... the important thing to remember is that the stuff that is sitting on the floor now looks great and doesn't even take up half the room. I used a stacking method that allowed me to stack them much higher than normal so I've reclaimed a large chunk of floor space. And...... it has the added benefit of not making me look like a nutter. When they're only stacked 6-7 high it makes the collection look much larger than it is.

Like last time, I took some pics of some of it just for fun.

I have my 737 collection. Still missing some of them, though.

727 Collection... as one of my favorites, of course I collect the hell out of 'em. I have a few others around, too, like my Matchbox 727 in 280th I think it was? and some in 1/200 and a couple other oddballs.

Three out of four Mad Dogs. The 4th is a bagged kit stuffed into where bagged kits go and it has glorious Alaskan transfers (blue and green, naturally!)

American wide body Trijets!

"I like 'em thick."  -Someone. Probably.

I love these things!! I never really figured I'd like non-military wares back when I started up again in 2016 but now I kind of probably like my airliners more than anything!   They're a pain in me arse, however. They're more of an "ordeal" than making military models for me. Might not be like that for others but these things are time sinks!

I guess that's it for now. I didn't find anything unexpected and I didn't find any brown recluse spiders. I found a lizard though.

So at least you're still making forward progress.

Spad looks tasty in Choccy Chip, airliners coming along nicely.

What about the Westland P.12 project?

http://www.wardrawings.be/WW2/Files/2-Airplanes/Allies/3-UK/05-Reconnaissance/Westland-Lysander/Lysander-P.12.htm

Though you'd need the original wings.

How's your stash of 2 or 3mm plastic sheet? BigB@stardFileTime(tm)!!  ;)

TheChronicOne

I actually have a ton of it but I'm not at the stage yet where I'd want to take on the task.  ;D   I will definitely get there eventually.

On that note... I'm still very undecided on how to or even if I should proceed with the wacky-races idea of throwing 109 wings on it w/ the same configuration as the old ones. BUT, I'm still investigating the possibility. I think it would be easy enough to do, but I'm not so sure about if the thing could operate properly with 109 wings.

And thank you!!!

I'm drooling over the Mexicana Ten, LOVELY looking aeroplane, and box lid too.

Do you only have the longer MD-80 and not the short DC9 variants Brad? There's LOTS of them to build!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

TheChronicOne

I don't have many, but I do have a decent "spread" as a starting point. Fly is opened ( ;D) but the two fuselages are present (although no decals!).  I thought I had another Airfix one but I may have been thinking of one my BAC-111.  And, like the BAC-111, I'm finding the DC-9 kits rather difficult to find for a reasonable price, considering the size of them.... I feel lucky if I even spot one for less than $30.

Woops, I chopped top and bottom off of the pic.  ;D

I also have my trusty reference material:

I want to build one all of a sudden.

Argh! I just went to Ebay out of curiousity and found one I've been wanting, and it's cheap enough! So I bought it.  :banghead:     (It's alright, I haven't bought any kits in about 3 months  :-\  ).

I better get off eBay.  :o

Quick update. I'm trying again to get the decals onto the 737. They're just too thick and brittle. Two coats of liquid decal didn't even phase them! I don't think any amount of anything can save these. So... that's no-go for Avigraphics. I have spray clear but I tried that once and the kind I use turns the sheet into a permanent fixture so I won't even attempt it.

SO.................. when I started all this process long ago, I first tried ATP but I didn't use any liquid decal on them. Luckily for me, I have some scraps left so I'm trying some liquid decal on the ATP cheatlines to see if they work. If they do, I'll be needing that sheet from Kit. If they don't work, I don't think anything short of freshly printed stock will accomplish the goal. This could turn into a what if!   ;D

That leaves the Tristar. It needs some clean up work because some dumbass sprayed clear but forgot to wipe the dust off the wings and middle fuselage.  ;D   So... I'll grab Mother Grinningbird and do some nice wet sanding to clear all that up and get back on task with it.
-Sprues McDuck-

TheChronicOne

OK, last update on this one for awhile.

I found my scrap of ATP material. It's so small that it's not quite a good representative of how a length of cheatline will behave but this stuff is not near as thick and brittle as the Avigraphics material. Indeed, with only ONE coat of decal fix, it worked quite well.

Alright then... I guess I'm ready attempt number four at this livery. Do your thing, Kit.  ;D

At this stage I'm desperate to get any type of justice at all with this project so I slapped my little scrap on the header of my desk.

Unit citation for the three years war of the Saudia 737.

This lead to yet another idea. I think every time I do an airliner, I'll try to snip off a scrap of cheatline and add it to my header and after 20 years it'll look like high ranking generals chest.

Don't forget to spray some clear over them...  ;D

The ones on the desk, I meant to say...

TheChronicOne

;D  'Bout to spray 'em down with shotcrete and sink 'em in a lake.  ;D  Going to try one more time......  one more time. Fourth time is a charm I swear.  ;D ;D
