Working on this again.   ;D     I have a question.... in the reference material I have, it says to fill in the top rudder hinge on the advanced. However, I have a picture of one in direct conflict with this. Could it be that newer versions switched them and that's why they aren't mentioned, or is the reference material wrong?

In other news, I've done about all I'm going to with the gravel deflector plate until I glue it onto the nose gear. After that I want to add a couple pieces that connect to the sides of the wheels. This was some TEDIOUS WORK I tell you what. I don't have the proper tools for this, AT ALL, but I did the best I could and I now have more items on the tools/supplies shopping list...

Not too shab!! For this damn small, I think I did pretty well. I've never done any PE work before.

A fine time to mention, as well, that if you didn't know.... you can take apart clothes pins, reverse and flip the wooden pieces, then put them back together and they turn into very handy "wooden needle-nose clamps."

Don't be afraid to ask for help with the smoking Brad C.  It is after all an addiction.
Well done in getting to where you are.

Re the rudder hinge, while I agree about the -200ADV only having two hinges, it appears ad nausiam in reviews about the Airfix kit, is that photo of a -200ADV? The later 737s had all sorts of variations of rudders etc. and Alaska flew most of the versions there have been.

As for your work on the gravel deflector, that's AWESOME. I'm most impressed!

 Thanks, all of y'alls.

Yup, that fin is on an Alaska combi. ---You know them and their bush planes and dirt runways up there...  ;D   There is a magnificent walk around here, with tons of great pictures. It's definitely a 200 ADV combi:

https://www.airlinercafe.com/page.php?id=424

That said, I haven't cross referenced with any other pictures yet and I plan to do that soon. But, it's rather "jarring" that literally the very first picture I come across of an ADV fin shows the opposite of what the reference says. On the actual picture of the actual aircraft, the BOTTOM hinge, not the top, is the one that has gone away.

This is why I hate doing real world stuff sometimes. I have found.... SO MANY TIMES... that reference material or supposed professional experts are dead wrong.

But, it bears mentioning, that the reference material may have been released before that specific aircraft was produced and that in the interim they switched from the top hinge to the bottom hinge.

EDIT:

I'm finding multiple more pictures but this is by far the best and clearly show that the bottom hinge is the one missing, not the top. Even with the picture being small you can see them:

Yeah buddy! Score one for me I guess.  ;D

Pictures of actual items take precedent. I'm sure it was merely a simple error on the part of the author. I do from time to time, I know! Left will become right, top to bottom, etc.

Besides, I had the answer in my own pictures the whole time. That first, glorious wiki commons picture is very good and, well, the jury has returned their verdict: I'm definitely going to delete the bottom hinge:

Ahhh man... yesterday was BUNK. Hardly ANYTHING went right the entire day.  All the shopping I did... half the places didn't have half of the things I was after. Annoying... I had been planning to stock up so I wouldn't have to make so many trips back and forth burning fuel but here we go again I guess!!

Rolled over a big screw at work.... so... not only did I not get my work finished, I had to drive cross-town and blow money on getting it fixed. I could have gotten it done for free at one of those places that you sell your soul to with 50 thousand questions and paper work then you sit in the lobby for eons. I ain't got time for that.

Then, mama FELL OVER!   :o :o   She's 87  years old man!! Gots that osteoarthritis and stuff too so that was scary and took quit the bit of work to get her upright again. Thing is, if not for the tire problem, I wouldn't have been home for another hour or more.  :o

After all this is said and done it's late in the evening and close to bed time so I just watched James Bond movie until bed time.

Going to try again, today! I have to re-do half of everything I did yesterday - go to stores and go pick up garbage,  but I'm making good time so far.  I ought to make it home by 3 or so then I can work on something. I'll figure out what later but I need to work on the nose fairing on the 737 and fill in that hinge. I'm actualy sort of kind of getting close to being able to paint it. It's hard to imagine because it's taken FOREVER.

On that note, one last major problem exists and that are the engines. The engines themselves need to be much longer, have fins on them, have an inlet taken away, and have the mounts changed.  :o :o  Good Lord. See, this is why I'm trying to find a set to buy but the Bra.z ones are all sorts of wrong (to the point that modifying the original kits ones is easier) and the AA ones non-existent.

Got a LOT done today! It was highly productive, unlike yesterday. I still have to devote some time to it, but the bulk of the grocery shopping is done. Tomorrow or next day I will complete it, and I won't have to go grocery shopping again for another month.

Got home and put all the crap away, worked on making meals, cleaned out the truck interior, etc but finally have found some time! I'm watching 'Moonraker' and have been doing some of the finer work on the nose gear fairing for the 737. I've managed to the get the overall "footprint" the proper size and now I just need to thin it toward the front and achieve the proper angle as well as make a bit of a cut-out at the front edge. Then, at the rear, I have to make more cut-outs to match the shape of the front of the gravel plate. After that, it's done! Just need to sand it a bit and re-prime then I can finally dig out my appliance white! ;D

Getting close!

Ah, Moonraker.  So true to the book...
...not!

But then none of the films really are after the first ones.  As far as the books go I quite like Moonraker.
I also like the filum despite it being Roger Moore.

My question as well.

If you got caught reading the "Bond" books back at secondary school in the 60's the book was confiscated and you got detention, they were considered "soft porn"  ;). I do remember them being passed around and very, very dog eared. No idea who, if anyone was the actual owner.

The first time I read most of them they were my mother's copies.  ISTR parts of The Spy Who Loved Me getting me a bit hot under the collar.

That's looking REALLY good Brad, in fact it's the best gravel kit 737 I've ever seen modelled! So many of them look as if the kit is 'scabbed on' rather than being part of the nose as yours does.

Thanks!!! It's even better now... I have the front angle where it needs to be and the thickness is now to scale as well. It's just down to making the cut-outs! I'm very pleased with how this is turning out. Miliput is a great product! Pretty soon I need to try to make the vortex dissipators (yikes, so tiny and thin) and I guess start cutting up the engines to extend them.

Mama is fine! Pretty sore but she ain't break nothin' (that we can tell, anyway). That osteoarthritis stuff is tricky. Makes me want to start chugging milk and calcium tablets just thinking about it.

Plans for today.... hell... who knows.. I'm not sure at all what's going on. I'm sort of in "work mode" right now since the weather has improved. I've been doing things to kind of start getting ready to start to get ready for the mowing season. I need to go wrap up my grocery shopping but hopefully with that done and picking up garbage out of the way I can come back home and try to get all the old fuel flushed out and get my equipment running. AFTER THAT... I'd like to finish up the remaining bits on the nose fairing then I need to sand the hinges I filled in last night with Tamiya Putty.

Then, I'd like to work a little on the Nomad... I really had an ordeal when it came time to glue everything together. I thought everything would be fine when I dry fitted, but apparently my nose weight was a wee bit outside where it needed to be and I had to fight the thing to get seams closed up in a couple areas right at the front.  :o

I'm hoping work today doesn't drag on like it has the past week or so. Yesterday I got a ton done, though!! Burned up a big pile of wood that I conveniently stationed over stumps.

Washed the dog.  (trust me, this can be a HUGE PITA)

Washed my truck. Can't let it get and stay dirty, it's not "professional."

Cleaned up a lot of stuff in the yard.... trash, branches and the like.

Bought a bunch of stuff like oil change, repair parts for lawn equipment, etc. and started working on getting that junk ready for Spring.

By time all that was done it was like 8:00 at night so I didn't get much model work done but I vaguely remember applying some Tamiya putty to the Nomad to fix the gap in the nose. I did my best to squeeze it back into spec so that I don't have problem later lining up the canopy.

I also....   wait.... I think that's all I did?! I was tired and was mainly watching TV and swilling beer. I was still sort of watching where I burned all that wood, also. I would have liked to let it smolder all night but the wind picked up so I spent a lot of time staring out the window. Eventually I went and doused it because the wind was starting to race and I could see embers flying out into the dead, dry grass...     I just hope is smoldered long enough to take them stumps out!

Today I will go pick up garbage. I've been doing this every day lately... more than I'm being payed for but I genuinely enjoy going to do it. It gives me purpose. It makes it easier overall...  for instance, it won't be as bad today since I was just there yesterday afternoon. ALSO..... MAN... these gorgeous beautiful women... oh man... they dress up to go shopping, OR, they wear those leggings or yoga pants or whatever.  I'm not a creeper or anything, but who the hell doesn't like to see beautiful things?  Also, they had the puppies and dogs there at the pet store doing an adoption drive. So I go up and visit the puppies.

But anyway, when I get back... I'll work some more on the 737 I think.
