I've never heard of that film, or the aircraft before Brad, but thanks for linking it.

That's one WEIRD looking aeroplane for sure, specially with that MASSIVE nose probe too, but the engine positioning is the strangest ever, with the possible exception of the variable sweep Boeing 2707 that also had tailplane mounted engines.

Very strange place to put the engines. I'm not even sure the elevators would work properly. But... can you imagine? THE quietest ride in the skies.

I've already started looking for a DC-7 for this. I'm not going to spring for the Roden one. I think one of the old box sccale Revell jobbers will do fine. 1/120 1/122 1/124 or whichever. Size difference won't matter a hill of beans because it's completely fictional. I just need engines I guess. I can't tell if the engines/nacelles on this thing have any basis reality or not but I kind of doubt it. Those exhaust, for instance.... I suppose maybe some sort of wacky hush kit but the things look more like anti-aircraft rockets pods or something.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Early-ish DC8s had some engines with exhausts a bit like that, not sure if they were P&Ws or Conways, but they certainly looked weird. Maybe an old Revell DC8 would provide them?

Making head way on all the builds today aside from the 737 that had now gone past one year in duration with no end in sight.

I'm only working on other builds because the Caravelle is drying. Otherwise, I'd be working on it. Getting close to deadline.

Pluto!!  I've began work measuring and cutting out the space for the nose gear. Used miter saw, then hack saw, now I'm down to the X-Actos.  ;D Won't be long then I'll be into files then finally into sand paper. Lot's of tools and stuff being used.  Also all stuff I've never done before, so it's taking extra time. Going to have to build the bay, etc. Definitely a learning curve here but it's very interesting doing something new!

Tristar......  back to it... just more sanding and priming. It's getting pretty close to being good to go for paint, though!

Only a year?  That's nothing to be worried about,  I've got at least one car model I started in 2011 and i'm sure that's a mere blink of an eye compared to some here.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I started an RCAF CF-104 Starfighter kit in 1972, the first all-over Tiger scheme aircraft No. 833, and didn't finish it till 1998.............

That's 26 yrs. :banghead:

Thanks, DFZ!!

I was just counting in the builds that are "on going" but if I wanted to be technical, I started a space shuttle in 1991 and it's still going so that's 28 years.....  I picked it up and put some glue on it either last year or the year before.  ;D

Well, I finished off the Caravelle. Still amazed the fuselage is straight.  ;D

I like it. It turned out pretty nice. Problems all on it but oh well. I'm pretty stoked.

Now what?! With the deadline build out of the way, I guess I can do whatever in hell I please. Tristar sounds good.    In fact, I think it may be ready for the next coat of primer to see how well the last bit of sanding turned out. Could have actual color on it pretty soon!

BUT, what I would really like to get going again is the Saudia 737 build. I've been sitting on my hands waiting to buy a rotary tool to grind away excess miliput on the engines. I am now about to purchase one....  battery powered so I can use half spent batteries if need be to achieve lower RPMs if the pre-sets don't get me there. I have a tiny bit of work to do on the nose gear doors. I also need to source a new set of decals. I may wind up back in the same situation I was before but I will try to test a decal I don't need first and if need be I have my decal film.

Pluto needs more work done on the nose gear bay I'm trying to build. Y'all should definitely tune into that thread; I ain't never done any of the type of crap going on with that build before... it's a true kit-bash and near scratch build. I'm going to have to make all kinds of stuff I don't have to accommodate all the landing gear and who knows what else...

Might start the Phantom pretty soon. I need a military and small build going.

Lastly, since we're almost to the part of the year where I have more time and energy I'm planning to get started on the 1/72 Boeing 707.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks, hoss!!! Turned out better than I was expecting.  ;D   I'm starting to get the hang of this airliner stuff.  Filling in windows still whoops my arse, but the rest of it starting to get easier.  :o

I need to stop neglecting the military side of things, however. To that end... I'm going to get something started to day. I think the Phantom I would be nice. Not sure how well the old MPM kit goes together but I know for a fact painting it will be super easy because the entire thing is a nice shade of blue. Talk about two coats or so gloss and done. Welcome to the 1950's....

Tristar stuff today as well.

Going to order the tool I need for the 737. Might look at those gear door mods I need to make.

I actually managed a start on it the other night! Hooray! It's such a simple kit. No clue the fitment and it has mighty thick sprue gates but I could knock this thing out at warp speed after a bit of cleaning up of certain things.

Speaking o' model stuff. Today I am setting ONE goal:  Get some sort of painting going on with the Tristar. It's been ready to recieve paint for a few days. Problem is, I haven't made up my mind how to go about it...   I'm floating between hitting it with one more all-over coat of primer or doing the same with some white... or.. masking the wings off and only painting the fuselage white.. or.... something... different ways to go about it. I'll need to look at all my painting directions to make up my mind.

Once this is done I'll work on something else I suspect but I'm not going to overload the brain circuits thinking about it until way later in the day.

Work wasn't bad today because the wind was howling by 8:30 AM! It made the difference today and I managed to make it home with a bit of energy left so I'm getting things done with models and making fair progress.

So far, I've managed to get the Tristar paint going. I'm going to sand it once then do a last coat of white then I need to gloss it for transfers. Good news is the PSR work seems good enough to me for the most part.. I may need to work a little more on some of the lower sections but I'll address that later... I just want to get the white on and drying so that I don't wind up waiting on it.

Nice to see something other than primer finally.

The Phantom is moving along as well. This is not a very refined kit, however. It's not terrible (I guess) but I've already had to cut up the cockpit floor to get it to actually fit inside as a bunch of built up excess plastic was situation atop the rail the floor sits on....   Rather than chiseling that crap out, I went for the quick and nasty and just cut some of the floor to make it fit. I wanted to get this in so I can install the nose weight. Like with the paint above, I want to get it knocked out early so it can sit and dry while I work on other aspects.

No pictures yet!! What a shame.  ;D  Maybe later... It would be nice to get it together enough that it looks like a plane but I'm not going to cut any corners. There's probably going to be fitment problems coming...
