Or as we were taught in CQB- "Slow is fast, fast is smooth."  Be deliberate in your movement, and they'll actually be fast.

Although... I CAN say one of the strangest persons I know is from NZ so there's that...


Re: the rest... yeah, not going backwards is super fun. I MUCH prefer this than getting 5 hour block of work done in rapid heavy manner but because of mishaps have nothing to show for it. I'd rather get a good 30 minutes in once every day and have something to show at the end of the week.

"Quit while you're ahead" is an excellent way for stealth laziness, too. People think, "Wow I admire your patience, fortitude, and maturity!"   I snicker in the background because sometimes I'm just being lazy, no higher goals or virtues this time.  :wacko: :wacko: :wacko:

More ultra slow, but productive, work done today. I'm painting still but stopped long enough to test fit the exhaust nozzles and found bad fitment and also that the ....uhhhhhhh.................   the....  the uhhh.............       :unsure:         "the little parts of the trailing wing between the exhaust tips and the fuselage" were uneven BIG TIME (most of this was my own doing from correcting fitment earlier in the build). It became very obvious with the nozzles on so I had to break out files and stuff and reshape the whole area. I also had to take my conical file and ream out the parts on the exhaust in the wings so the tips would actual fit correctly and at the right proper angle.

Other than that milarkey, the paint work on the gear doors is progressing. I'll likely add another coat of blue to them then I have to cut them all apart and sand the edges and re-touch the paint. Then I can clear them with the gear themselves then they're ready for final-fiddly-assembly (try that 10 times fast).

Also another coat of blue paint on the plane itself. One or two more then I'll be good to go.

Well, a few days have passed. I've been working a bunch trying to get myself out of the mowing season then I immediately started working on my own yard then last night had a couple people over for company. That was nice. Back to work on models now!

I'm still doing house work, inside this time, but I'm going to work on the Phantom, too. I'd like to be done with it today but you know how that goes...............

Another day of miniscule work accomplished but good work all the same! No setbacks, just the normal stuff like going back in to do touch-up painting.

I accomplished all that crap and also finished painting and cutting apart all the gear doors and gear and assoc. malarkey. The plane is finally done, too, and I've gloss coated it.



I was going to skip it, but since I have another day of work ahead of me regardless, I'm going to go ahead and scratch up all the antennas and stuff to add them on in final.

Supposedly, all I need to do tomorrow after work is start decalling the thing.  :unsure:    SHOULD be done tomorrow... for real this time.

would have been done but I lost an exhaust nozzle and that cost me an hour then when I unmasked things, everything went really bad. This is the one thing I haven't been able to figure out in these years since I've started the hobby again. There just doesn't seem to be a way to prevent this from happening if you need to put multiple layers of paint/varnish on after you mask something. I could slice along the edges but that's so tedious and the blade ALWAYS flies off in an unwanted direction. Even when I CAN cut perfectly along the edge of the tape to keep paint from coming off with it, it leaves a gargantuan RIDGE left over.

NEXT time, I'll paint things like the wing walks on DEAD LAST and just have to re-mask and re-spray everything at the end. At least it will help me to avoid THIS. But, still, there are other instances where it's not possible like with canopies.




This is going to take a good long while to fix and fix properly. I'll have to build up the paint and build it up some more so that it reaches the same level as the rest of it before I gloss it again.  :banghead:

Oh well, everything else went pretty well at least! All the parts are on and she's finished other than to fix my huge mistake and take the masking off of the glass. I don't even want to look at the damn thing right now, though, and am likely to stuff it in a corner for about a week so it can think about what it's done!  :angry: ;D

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

One of the reasons I switched to an airbrush after using paint bombs for years, the paint layers are thinner & there's less of this type of thing.

There's more bleeding of paint under the tape, if you haven't sealed it down properly or your paint's too thin, but there are trade-offs with everything & I find the bleeds easier to deal with.

Good point about the airbrushing....    I've recently started entertaining thoughts again of getting on and now hear this information, I might just go ahead and pull the trigger. (HEH.... HEHH EHEH! )     

ANYWAY. Back to work on this Phantom today. I SHOULD be done today but......well.....   I'll just leave it at that. All I have to do is get this paint situation fixed then re-clear the area then remove the masking on the windows. Shouldn't be that big of a deal!  Nice and sunny out today, too...good for pictures.  :lol:

The repair worked out great! It's a bit less "good" than it would have been originally but in my opinion, looks just dandy. I made a separate thread for it this time per my new doctrine of keeping things better organized.

So now what? I've been focusing ONLY on this thing for over a week. I think I'll check up on my Boeing 737. All that new Miliput I put on the engines to make the stout pylons should be well dried and cured by now so I can start the second phase of shaping. First phase was straight edge and water "polishing" and this next phase will be to get the actual dimensions and shape honed in. No clue how long this will take because...well... new territory for me. I suppose I'll just eyeball it and hope to get it "close enough."  Close enough is about all I'm going to be able to manage on these engines. Some of this stuff is still beyond my skill level. BUT, you know what? I think whatever it is I manage to get done is going to be better than doing nothing at all and having ugly inaccurate engine pylons. (Lord, don't I wish I could convert this over to a what if so I din't have to worry about such things....   :rolleyes:)

One more pic of the Phantom since it was in my copy and paste holding area. (I swear there used to be a name for this back in the 90's..... it's on the tip of my tongue )  EDIT:  CLIPBOARD! I just remembered.  They used to call the non existent "realm" where things you copy sit until you hit "paste" this.  ;D  Anyone else remember?  This is back in the days of Clip-Art and dial-up.


OK! Working on the 737 engines now.  I got to a good start and have since put them away. At least I'm underway with the task and I'll cross any difficult bridges as I reach them. For now I've kind of filed some basic outlines and border areas into it and even used a saw on some to get long straight lines. Next I'll chip away more and break out the rotary tool both and start to unearth the true shape of the new pylons.

W/ that out of the way now I want to think about something for the new GB. I have, what I recall to be, a BAGGED Airfix Skyraider. Finding it could be a problem. But... I have an idea where it is...  I hope my memory isn't faulty about it being bagger, too. I'm pretty sure it was but at this point I have so many damned kits that it's hard to rely on memory alone for details like this.

When I find it, I'll be making it with Chocolate Chip camo and I'd like to make it a USMC bird I think. Not sure about decals, though....perhaps find some from a Harrier?  :unsure:
