My plan to do miniscule amounts of work every day because "something is better than nothing " is back in action again today! This time, I want to finish painting the gear doors. I'm having trouble on deciding how to paint this thing on the bottom, though, so I need to make up my mind. I'm not sure how those Nellis F-16s were painted down there so perhaps y'all could help me out... was it a wrap around?

Here's the picture again.

It looks mighty dark down there but looking I can't tell if it's a solid green or a continuation of everything on top. I suppose I could do whatever I wanted but I'm try to keep inline with what they wanted to do in the 80's concerning aircraft holding off the red menace charging through Europe. Back to the Thunderbolt II again... I believe the EU planes were painted a solid green down on the bottom?  If left up to me....  I'm going to just use the lighter green color on the bottom. With all the crap it will be carrying I don't think an actual pattern would make a hell of a lot of difference anyway.  ;D

Lastly, I'm going to crack open the Lysander and start getting the parts organized and see what kind of "clean up" work I need to do before I start gluing stuff together. I'm hoping to have this one be very easy to make. Should be, yeah?

Best wishes and much sympathy to your mum; and well done looking after her.

Aged parents are always a worry, my mum is 94 next month and still living totally independently (as is Madame R's mum, who is 92 next month)  They are both in Carlisle, we are just north of Hereford, so it's off up the road (250 miles) every 6 weeks or so to check on them. Fortunately my sister still lives in Carlisle!  As several other people here will no doubt agree, you are always waiting for a phone call

Thanks, biggin!  Indeed... I can't tell what's worse, having to take... or make that call. It's like being on thin ice just sort of waiting for something to happen.

She going in for follow up appointment today so we'll see what the Dr. has to say.

All the best for you mum mate.

Thank you. She seems a bit better today so I'll take that as a good sign.

Upped my quota for today since I'm feeling a bit more rested and energetic and actually started on the Lysander and worked on the XL both.

XL had the intake assembly sanded a wee bit then attached to the bottom fuselage halve. Nothing major... but it's always nice to decrease the parts count and be one step closer to having a whole airplane.

The Lysander got the bulk of the efforts. I trimmed out and cleaned up a bunch of parts and got started right away gluing things together. Glued the seats to the bulkhead and then glued those in the fuselage halves. Tired are ready for prime. Glued the fuel tank together (Is it a fuel tank?! I guess it is.  ;D )  It's small and has reinforcement rings on it so who knows. Crap container?! Mainly a Liason aircraft right? Could be a bomb anyway I suppose. Goes in the middle according to the directions which have been taped back together since having found the missing half. Not much else, but worthwile anyway.... getting parts groupings together and got the clear parts wrapped up for some cleaning, polishing, and Future. A fair amount of frame work on it but it all seems STRAIGHT with no weird angles or curves and it all seems the same width with no weird "this is wider at this point then tapers to this width" going on so it should be easy enough.

Seems I'm on airliner break. Back when I stopped working on it, the Tristar was just about ready for more paint but weather went bad. It's getting better but It hink it goes right back to bad again by the weekend. Maybe I can make a go of painting on it some before then, though! Would be nice. I'm so very close to being able to put on a lot of the transfers and I can't wait to see them!

Different goals for today. I'm going to crack open a DC-9. The new goals are to: build a kit after I buy it for once and to build a small airliner and build an airliner that doesn't kick my arse. I love 'em so much but they're a pain in the butt to make sometimes. This is a small aircraft with a simple paint job. NO bleedin' windows to fill in and the decals should be right as rain. I'm trying to placate the airliner gods (I imagine the main god is a big 747 or something with white hair) so they stop tormenting me every which way from Sunday.  ;D

After I do that, however, I'm not slowing down on the others. I'm going to put the Tristar on hold for awhile since I'm going to start playing with the Douglas Commercial but I will pick up the Lysander and do a little more then see what I can tinker with on the XL. I might go ahead and clip out the weapons from me Heller NATO set. That will eat up a fair chunk of time and get me rolling on ordnance because I need it to plan out where I put my pylons. I came up with a neat way to do it. Before I glue them together, I can use the halves to set on the bottom of the wing. They'll sit nice and flush and then I can move them around into their final spots and then trace around them with a pencil then, voila, I now can place the new pylons of which some I will need to make from scratch. The Heller set comes with them for the AGM 88 but not for any of the others. I guess the AGM 88 rails where different or some crap while the others more generic.

DC-9 stuff.

Accurate double-bubble fuselage crease.

A bit flashy but not bad. Some filing down of sprue gate remnants but..... not bad. Seems pretty nice! I've already cut out and cleaned up the fuselage, dumped weight it, glued in the nose gear well, and glued the halves together. It'll sit nose-down for a few days so the glue can dry up then I'll finish sealing the seams with TET so I an sand on it. In the meantime, I'll get the gears and wings finished off. By time I finish all that crap the fuselage will be ready.

PR19_Kit

That looks classy Brad, a good find.

But even the DHL cargo birds have windows, even if they are blanked out...........  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Gotcha, hoss! I just meant I won't have to fill them in like I would on an Airfix kit. I like my smoothies.  ;D  This one is going to be fun.

That looks good indeed...   makes want to build the Boeing 737-800... gotta find a Ryan Air or Easy Jet set of decals for that, too... :banghead:

That's the key, isn't it..... Good luck!  It's only a matter of time.

Saw a kit that has the Ryan Air scheme but it's expensive... Maybe next month if it's still available...  :banghead:

IMO the main Airliner God would be a Handley Page HP42.
