NJ's pretty much the same as the UK- put your recycling in the recycling bin, and away it goes, without question or cost.  Although, Atlantic County Utilities Authority, who does our recycling in my part of SNJ, has issued guidance that they don't take certain plastics orcardboard (mainly freezer and pizza boxes and clamshell plastics)

The what they will and what they won't recycle in the UK almost requires a Phd course to understand and it varies from local authority to local authority, and then when the recycling men come they throw it all in the same truck, sometimes with the general rubbish

Decent news to report!  Hours of reckoning and a visit to the recycling place which was unusually clean outside and unusually non-busy netted $42. I immediately drove to the bank and deposited $40 and went home. I still have a rather large load of cans to take. Won't be as large as this last one but I estimate another $20 or so perhaps? Seems the prices have recovered a wee bit since I went a month or more ago.

I did a bunch of sanding and filing on the DC-9 parts but that's about it for model efforts today. Won't be long before the weather goes shithouse again though and I'll have some hours to spare.

I discovered I still have my old Metal Bulletin login whilst looking up another forgotten log in yesterday and more surprisingly it works ! The price of industrial grade Al scrap has been very volatile recently and is driven by demand in China and India (there's a surprise) and the price for cans is always lower. It is however showing some signs of picking up, but that was before some recent "events".

The problem is Aluminium is a traded metal (on the LME) therefore the price tends to not have much to do with demand. Nothing at all to do with reality as such but guys and gals sitting on their backsides in Finsbury Square playing games. I've just looked at the current 3 month futures trading graph and after a couple of weeks of declining prices it's shot right up since Monday.

And here I thought the prices having initially gone down (resulting in my battleship sized load of cans being worth $26) might have had something to do with the tariffs of late.  So many other things we buy HAVE gone up due to them and of course things we sell go DOWN. It's always the little guys getting hurt when the big infants get into a pissing match.

Speaking of infants...  they just interrupted The Price is Right for a news conference.


Plans today? I don't know... I never determined whether or not I was going to (paying) work today but judging on the way I dressed myself upon egress feet-wet from the shower it would appear I plan to not even exit the house today. So.... good time to catch up on some model work!!!!!!!!!!

I lied about my intentions, apparently. I couldn't help myself and spent the afternoon doing house projects; especially outside. Got a ton of good stuff done. Going to make the whole yard look good.  The exercise and feeling like I'm accomplishing things is having me feeling better phsyically and mentally so I'm going to keep at it until the weather forces me away. 

But... I did eventually get some model stuff done. I cleaned up and organized my entire bench. I even made some new stuff to hold items. I got rid of things that don't belong and moved seldomly used items away from important spaces so that oft used items will be easily accessible.  All this took awhile but was necessary. See, I had to add a monitor to my desk here (when the one on my laptop went out) and it's made things rough because it hogs space. It was high time I re-configured things. Having things difficult to reach has knocked a hole in my mojo so correcting this issue should help.

To models, though.. I did a bunch of stuff with the XL. Cut out some pylons from card and clipped out and organized other parts and did some other stuff I can't recall.



EDIT:  I forgot that I did take a couple pictures of some of my efforts. This is my solution to the errant marker/pen conundrum. I ran a wire. I haven't had a chance to try out the dollar store permanent markers that populate the mid section.





I have a computer desk and I keep hammering nails into it to hang things and as weird as it sounds it's been one of the most satisfying things ever.    Having all these things easily accesible is neat and it also looks sort of like a mini hardware store.


Lastly..... an American Airlines babe from 1967. And people say airliners are boring....

While I admire your organisational zealotry I find that texters (sharpies, markers whatever you want to call them) last longer and work better if stored point down.
I keep mine in an old fish oil capsule container (of which I have a vast collection).

Ah ha! Good point. What I need is a second series of caps then I can flip them all. 


Weather is really nice again so I'm back to working on my yard. Final load of cans need to go the to recycling place, too. Curious how much $$$ I get this time.

Model stuff later perhaps and if I do it'll be to finish the refinement of the pylons I made yesterday and try to get a little painting done. Now that everything is better organized it shouldn't be such an ordeal.

Very busy lately taking advantage of the nice weather trying to get all my yearly outside work done and also years of prior work that backed up on me thanks to 2.5 years of Sciatica. I'm enjoying the exercise and playing with my dog outside. I like when he's around to keep my company and he's a funny dog so it's neat watching him do his "goofy dog" stuff while I work. At one point I was having him pull limbs out of the fence. I'd cut it so it was loose then shake it around and let him do the "work" of pulling it out. Didn't last long but it would be neat to train him to take sticks and limbs and and put them in a pile. 

But uhh...    yeah, busy, haven't done any updates in here and the work I've been doing has been on the two builds I have separate threads for, including the XL and the time sensitive Lysander build. Both are going nicely. The Lysander is ready to be primed and painted and the XL is right behind it waiting on just a couple of pylon modifications so i can glue them on. Otherwise a little bit of sanding but it's basically ready for paint, too.

The reason I stopped by, though, was because the transfers for the Tristar arrived a few days ago so i made time today to start putting them on.

THIS time I made sure to cut those 5mm out of the port side cheatlines. I also trimmed the other side a bit but they were much better and didn't need as much sliced away.   Got those on, the fin flash, and the naming stuff. Then I put the GRIN on the Grinningbird.
