Thank you! It's a happy, bright aeroplane and it's good to work with these colors this time of year. This thing is a bit beyond my skill level in some areas and pushing the limits on others but I'm starting to think I'll at least get it finished soon instead of languishing for untold months.

I still like the Mono-Star version that you're building................. 

      I keep forgetting to mock up the engines for pics. NOT THIS TIME!     But before we get to that......

I wonder... if one of these gargantuan new turbofan engines... a GE-90X or whatever the hell the newest most powerful one is.....  could power the Tristar by itself? Someone should run the numbers!  ESOPS. 


But uhhh... back to work on it today. Very slow, still, but steady. After a few chores I spent most of the afternoon on it. It's raining and nasty out so I can get away with it.

I decided to start in on the ~~~~~ULTRA MEGA DETAIL SET WOOOO!!!!  ~~~~~ From Nazca. Everything North of the cheatlines should go on. I could do it later, but I'm going to gloss over this all anyway so I can mask so I may as well get it out of the way. Most of the details are tiny things like little circles and dots and stuff but there were some vents and hatches that went on... 1/144 scale pitot tubes, etc.  Speaking of.... these are some of the tiniest decals I've bothered applying.





There was another one about half the size of those. Thankfully it was just one. Some green dot that went on the stbd. nose with a bit of text beneath it. No clue what it is. I don't know what these little circles are, either, but 4 went on each side about a meter below windows and most were close to doors.

I've also done other things like getting back to painting the engines. Insides of the exhaust painted black and using reference pictures I've started painting the darker bands of the tips. I'm going to try to achieve a bit of variation on the outboard engines using tricks with the final clear coats and using a chrome pen for the heated ring stuff at the front.

Yeah, those smaller markings will drive you nuts... or in my case, more nuts... 

I made a 1/200 RNZAF 727 for the Brother-in-Law and called it quits after I did the multiple door handles, small hatch markings, etc.
There're still a plethora of '"so small you can't really see 'em" ones on the remainder of the sheet.

The RB-211s that the Tri-Star used were 50000 lbs thrust each to start off, and the GE9X is rated at 105000 lbs.

But quite where you'd put it I'm not sure!

It would definitely fly, then!! So cool. The high bypass engines or whatever they're called are amazing. The only way to stick it on there, I do believe, is to throw it right on top on struts like how they hauled the Space Shuttle on the 747. I guess?  Certainly needs to be centerline. 

Didn't get anything done yesterday, at all. I think today, if anything, I'll work on the Lysander.

PSA is to be glossed today. I've already been painting on it this morning trying to get the #2 engine exhaust finished and touch up areas here and there. Also painting the other engines to try to make them look better. Weather is perfect for outside spraying so that's good! I'll gloss it up in a few light layers then let it sit around and gas out for awhile before I mask and hopefully finish the painting. There's a couple areas of wear protectant but most of the lower fuselage is NMF. Nice and shiny. I might use my special silver paint that can't be touched or cleared over but looks great.

Once I get this thing glossed, I'll be working on the Lysander. One more pass on the canopy painting then that should be done and I'll paint over the lines with future to darken them up to match the rest of the paint that will be darkened through use of clear coats. Then it's time to paint... looking forward to it. It should be a relatively simple affair. I have my paints picked out already and brushes on standby. It'll be a new IAF scheme! Retain the sky blue bottom portions from the Egyptian scheme then all the uppers get the blue/brown stuff. So, we'll have blue, blue, and brown(tan, whatever.... ).

It would be a hoot. I can envision in my mind how it would look and everything. 


Mother Grinningbird there is to be allowed to have her cleat coat gas out another day but tomorrow I think I'll get back to it. It'll be a parade of masking. I'm looking forward to it, actually.  Not always the case with masking but this is the first time I've had to do this in order to paint an Airliner. All previous efforts had ways around it but not this time. It's something I definitely need to do so that it becomes easier in the future.

Otherwise I've been working on the Lysander. Quite a bit of painting done. I'll probably wrap that up tomorrow.

Also back to work on the DC-9. In my haste (and lack of instructions) I forgot to glue all kinds of crap onto the wings but I've since remedied that and also built the engines and landing gear while I had the glue unleashed. There's still refinement work to be done but this one will be in paint soon I think.

All those flap track fairings and the vortilons on the DC9's wing are enough to drive you nuts sometimes. Plus some versions DON'T have the vortilons, just to keep you on your toes!

But it's look good Brad, more power to your tweezers.
