BIIIIIG engine.... in the middle instead of fuselage.... then, hanging from each wing is a fuselage full of pax!
I've seen a photo shopped pic of exactly that on the net somewhere... Saved a copy of it once, but it's on my dead computer...  :banghead:

I remember something similar myself but can't place it.......    I know I've at least seen one where the entire plane was just an engine with wings or some crap.... funny stuff.

Oddly, I think it could be in the outer realms of plausibility if done properly! A "fuselage" or something that is just one of the new bigass high bypass glorious engines and to store fuel and cargo then out under the wings a couple "pods" so to speak to hold the human cargo. Hell, if anything is implausible about it, it's the single engine. Even with the single engine being perfectly capable the whole redundancy thing airliners go for would mean there would be two engines regardless.

Yes, I agree, Kit, we need to get Ericr on the case. ^^  ;D

Given passengers in pods, does that mean that an engine and carrier wing could taxi in, discharge its pods, clip on replacements and be away again in a few minutes?

Brilliant. A whole system could be set up that might cut down "gate time" or whatever they call it and streamline things. Future Tech!

And why not? We could be onto something here...............  ;D

Finished the painting of the DC-9 wings. Now I just need to mask and paint the silver anti-ice stuff then clear them. Next up I'll do a little last minute "detail sanding" on the fuselage but it's essentially ready for primer now. Going to bet back to that here in a few minutes after Chronic Break.

The bulk of the time today has been spent on the deadline having Lysander. At this point I don't think I'll have any problems meeting the deadline. It'll be tricky doing the finally assembly because of how the wings attach but at least everything (aside from some weird thing beneath the cowling that I'd like to know "what is" first) is painted and the decalling is halfway done. Tomorrow will be the rest of the decals then finally assembly I hope.

So.....  now I'll work a little more on the DC-9 like I said and I think I'll also try to finish masking the Tristar and might go ahead and prime the lower half.

But at least I know what a Hoopoe is and have seen one

I now know what a hoopoe is but have never seen one. Apparently they've only been sighted twice in Australia, once in WA & once on Elcho Island in the Northern Territory.

The one I saw was in London Zoo

Probably a stuffed one in the Hornimans or Natural History museum when I was a kid as well.

Ha!!  ;D   And yeah.... them some GOOOOOD names. It ain't nothin' new to re-use names or ressurect long dead ones so I'm going to call something I make in the future the Gnatsnapper or possibly the Gnatsnapper II.  ;D

As far this thing, I think it's an intake for the engine?   :o  It's what it looks like in pictures of real ones but it seemed to be absent on some so I became confused.  ;D

The weather has gone South but I'm not going to let that stop me. I can go to the other side of the house and open a window and hold the items needing sprayed (DC-9)outside and let the wind do it's thing.  It's raining like crazy and the wind is howling from the North now and temps are dropping so I don't want to go outside at all...

BUT... plans are to finish masking the DC-9 wings. I did quite a bit last night, I just need to finish "cutting in" around the tighter areas and protrusions. Once that's done, I paint the silver stuff on and remove the masking. I'll gloss them up later. I want to get the fuselage primed to see if I'm done with PSR. IF SO......  I get to paint. I'm looking forward to it on this one BIG TIME. The only masking I have to do is to get a red strip with a rounded front going down the belly but then there's no weird masking or cheatlines or anything; just a field of yellow from nose to arse so it should be a breeze to paint other than the fact that I'm dealing with yellow. But, since there are no color variations to cover up, I might be able to get by without as many coats.

The Lysander just needs to have its numbers put on. I suppose I could have done it last night but I want to check up on some things first to make sure I don't put an SR-71 rego on there or something and have the RC's flipping out.  But... one last hurdle... the way the wings attach to the canopy glass is troublesome..I want a good strong bond there but I don't need my clear plastic fogging over so I'm not sure how to go about it but I'll just play around until a soulution presents itself. Hell, the struts might be strong enough to keep them stable then I can just use PVA or something. We'll see....  uncharted waters. ------HOW OFTEN.... is it that the WINGS are one of the very last, if not THE last things to go on a model?!

-Sprues McDuck-

TheChronicOne

Bunch more stuff done on the Lysander. I decided to PVA all the glass so I have no choice but to let it dry as much as possible so it stays steady and in place for when I get around to attaching the wings. I'll face that tomorrow or next day or whatever. I'm also going to try to put all the little antennas and stuff on there including the aerial one and the little wire that  connects to it.

Now I'm getting the DC-9 in order. I was starting to get confused a bit and anxiety was creeping up about which way to paint the colors... it comes down to what's easiest to do and the best way to use "waypoints" on the fuselage. Once I had it in my mind the best way to proceed I decided to write it all down and even do a "dry run" to get it all solidified in my mind. With the whole ADD thing and my oft inability to focus I think it well prove helpful to have done this.

So, next I went ahead and painted up the engines! A couple passes with the yellow and they look pretty nice! I just need to mask them off and paint the NMF at the exhaust then paint the fans then they'll be ready for decals.

Fuselage was also primed. I have a tiny bit left to do but I had to have a place to hold it. It looks pretty decent... might need to work on the top seam some more but I could also just roll with it as-is and I imagine it wouldn't be too much worse for wear.

I'm glad you posted the pic of the scheme,  I was picturing it with red and white diagonal stripes...

With the Airfix DC9-30 the wing slots are wide enough to take a bent coat hanger to use as a handle. But the Fly kit may be too narrow for that, but worth a try before you apply the colour coat maybe?
