Had my trusty hat and wet cloth both and vanquished the sun......

Also, got 98% of the transfers on the plane itself. I still have two little red stripes to put on the bottom but even though that's all I had left I couldn't muster up the gusto knowing I still have to decal the weapons anyway so I figure I'll tackle all that today. Should be finished with it today.... just gotta get the transfers on the weapons then glue them and the gear and doors on then that's it I guess. It looks pretty neat with the transfers on it!

I find that's the stage that brings a project to life.

I'm with you on that.... sometimes a build can go from the mundane to the impressive "just like that." Maybe the paint job is a bit simple, etc... but adding transfers can transform it almost magically or something.

No progress on my build today, though. I tried... I messed up the transfers. The stress of "everything" is getting to me mentally and physically. It's weird.. I worked my way out of the hell week I just had and didn't have to mow yesterday or today (still plenty of other work, errands, chores though) so you'd think I'd be feeling better but I'm somehow feeling worse. It's a mix of exhaustion yet.... with pent up energy....   leads to feeling aggravated and upset, to say the least. I think I need a vacation or something.

Trying again tomorrow. I actually have a plan. I'm going to get back to the thing that makes me feel at ease: mowing... by doing my yard.. I'll start on it. The excersise and satisfation will do me good then in the evening I bet I can finish this XL up.

Trying to finish the XL today. I mowed yesterday and sure enough was feeling much better. I guess I'm "addicted" to it or something. I dunno.... it energizes me in the moment and the exercise is great. Got some good sleep last night, too. I was dealing with a bit of sleep debt so I knocked that out and so far today I feel really good. I have to finish mowing my lawn today and go out and get trash picked up at the gargantuan shopping center but it's juuuuuust the right amount of work to give me my exercise without draining too much energy..... I think.   So anyway... slight bit of chores when I get back but DAMNIT I'M GETTING THIS THING FINISHED TODAY.

On that note... I've been thinking about the next project and I think I might even have a bit of fun with it. I'll start the project here and keep it secret what it is. We can treat it like a game.... eventually the WIP pics will reveal what it is enough that someone will guess it at which point I'll do the full reveal and change the thread name, etc. Could be fun? Thoughts?

Finished the XL. I have to take the pictures still but that's easy enough. I now need to figure out a way to keep going without feeling like giving up. I think I'll try to do something with the F-86. Once I get the nose weighed down and looking alright the rest should be easy. I figure if I can devote maybe an hour or two to the nose issue....... that the rest will just start to fall into place.

On that note.... I believe prior reports of a diverter type of thing being inside the nose may have been confused with that of a MiG aircraft of similar vintage. I thought it sounded odd....

Yes, you're dead right, and it was me that said it, sorry :banghead:

I wonder why I went to all that trouble putting a diverter in my FROG Sabre 4 back in the day? Of course there wasn't an internet then so research was a lot more difficult.  :o

You'd have thought North American would have kept the needs of nose weight needing modellers in mind when they designed the thing though, wouldn't you?  ;D ;)

That second pic's a cracker though, very useful.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

To be fair, they did eventually see their mistake - and then designed the F-86D.  ;)

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

I might just stick a little piece of blue tack on the bottom of the nose wheel and that should keep it properly situated and would turn what could be hours of work into mere seconds of work. But then again, I'm going to have to look at things first but there's so very little room for weight because of how forward the main gear are...   We'll see....  but uhhhh... I think the blue tack will be the way to go this time.

Rick Lowe

Hey, Brad

Glad to see things are starting to go a bit more smoothly for you (and hoping I haven't woken Murphy & jinxed you...)

Pluto came out good, woof woof!

The airliners ditto.

F-16 too.

For the Sabre, could you maybe find some sheet lead and roll that into a flattened tube, replacing the kit part? Or around the outside of the kit part? Just a thought.
Or you could use some lead sheet/blocks to make the cockpit floor, consoles and seat?

TheChronicOne

Thanks!!  Yes... things are starting to level out... I think I might even see some "off" time on the horizon as we go into the driest time of the year. It ain't rained much in the last few weeks and the grass finally slowing down so if it doesn't rain any more it'll go into survival mode and I can maybe push some lawns from two weeks to three weeks and BAM... open up some free time for house projects and working on my builds!

I COULD do all that but it was supposed to be a quick and dirty build...... I don't want to devote a lot of time to it so I'm just going to put a speck of blue tack on the bottom of the nose wheel and that'll hold it down.    Easy way to cheat.

I suppose I'll be working on this Sabre this even perhaps? I'm itching to get on to the next project which I think I'm going to have a little fun with and do as a mystery project until someone guesses is. I won't even say anything about it other than maybe to mention that the one clue as to what is going on is in my blog.

Sure would like to wrap up the Tristar, too. I think I'm in the decals stage right now on that one.

TheChronicOne

Yeah, we shouldn't have mentioned things going well. I was probably the happiest I had been in a week or 10 days and sure enough a human element came in a ruined it for me doing things that I have mentioned dozens if not hundreds of times that make me upset. "People" just don't care. So anyway.... I went from happy to depressed just like that and naturally got nothing done as all my energy and motivation drained away. Of course.... I'd like to try again though but I have a day of moving things ahead of me in the heat... I'm unloading a shed that I'm paying someone to tear down so I gotta get that done because I told them they could get after it tomorrow.

So the F-86 this even possibly or maybe I'll get back to work on the Tristar which I'd like to put a stake in because it's close to being finished I think.

#4001
Back in action tomorrow... I hope?  I've made some ground on the infinite list of things to do but I'm pushing lawns back a wee bit so tomorrow after a bunch of chore crap I'm going to be on the F-86.

10 million things have gone on over the last couple of days. Here's one...... the truck I bought earlier this year had a recall to the point Ford Motor Co. was sending me mail correspondence to me every week pleading with me to get it repaired. (Lawyer game on strong).  I got it fixed the other day and boy am I glad!  ;D

Here's what it was....  the recall was about the driver airbag. Were it to deploy, there stood a very fair chance that the entire mechanism would explode and send metal shrapnel toward the driver at neck and face level. Lord almighty? That's scary. I've been driving it and even after I learned of this I've been driving it for a couple of months.

I even gave this problem a nickname. I called it it "The Claymore" because it's like driving around with a Claymore anti-personell mine strapped to the god damn steering wheel. Get into a fender bender with some idiot and shrapnel is flying through your carotid artery and face in a worse case scenario. It was scary for awhile and added to my stress so I am quite relieved that the problem was fixed.

I got a billion other things to ruminate about as well but I'll get into that later. This is long enough.  ;D

zenrat

There is a school of thought which argues a claymore fitted in every car's steering wheel would have a positive effect on road safety.
I'd certainly pay more attention...

Flippin Adda. Glad you never got in a position where it needed to be deployed

Old Wombat

That sounds likely be linked to the Takata airbags recall, across most manufacturers (Asian, European, American & Australian) & models built during a certain time period, over the last few years here in Aus, don't know about the rest of the world but it was a big deal here.
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!
