Dunno how silly it is but it's a SOMEWHAT plausible idea. The plane itself with the high wing (that is situated at the back of the cabin) provides excellent downward visibility and it flies slow enough to make observation possible.

Very plausible indeed. When I lived there in '78 they flew An-2s along the southern half of The Wall zone.

They couldn't do it in the north because the inbound flights to Tegel Airport would have run into them........

That was at the same time as the RAF were flying camo'd Chipmunks along our side of the border.  ;D

Ha!!!!   That's great... thanks for the history lesson.  I always kinda figured they'd have some sort of flying patrol but didn't actually know. Most of my knowledge about the border zone seems to be ground-level and that seems to be fading.   I saw some documentary I think it was maybe 3 years ago about the history and progression of the border and how it became the Berlin Wall but I can't remember much. This will be a good opportunity to refresh my knowledge and learn new things about the whole mess. That's one of the fun things about these projects... I always get a lot of research and learnin' done.

Interesting and plausible idea

Should be a hoot!!  This little kit won't take long to get together... most of the time bill be spent cleaning the parts up so they fit right but it shouldn't be long before I have it built up. I'm anxious to see what it looks like assembled and get into the paint work.

Speaking of simple.... this kit didn't come with a stitch of decals.....   judging from the art work I can see why but in the history section of the instructions it said that this thing was used for years after the testing phase as a liason aircraft; it would have been nice to have the markings and scheme for that.

Back at it today I guess. I lost yesterday to a gout flair up. I've let my diet go to hell and became complacent. Here I was eating jerky, pepperoni, worceshire sauce, steak sauce, and a number of other rich foods. It hasn't bothered me in so long that I guess I sort of just forgot that i CAN NOT EAT THIS CRAP. I even cancelled my beer and debate last night (vice presidential debate anyway so not as fun as the last one) because it's not good to drink beer or alcohol in a flair up. Dude... I'm telling you, no worcestershire sauce is worth the misery!   Check this out, there are even women...... who have given birth.... that say their gout flair ups are WORSE PAIN that child birth.    Good lord... back to the boring but less painful diet. I totally missed out on my plans for yesterday including working on the duck, continuing the Thunderbrrrt bebates, and watching the real debate.

ANYWAY. Today will be better because I won't be eating any of this crap for lunch like I did yesterday. So, when I'm done with all the mowing I'll be back working on the Duck. Plans are to get the interior finished off so I can button the thing up and get on with the show. The windows will go in last so I gotta figure a way to sort paint the thing without messing up the interior. I think I'll pre-prime the fuselage pieces then later on mask over the windows (frame work and all) and later I can come back in and brush paint the stuff and while I spray the rest (including re-prime after seam fixing) won't get inside. Also, I said I was going to get the markings together before I proceeded then naturally skipped right over it. I'll go ahead and do that today because if the roundels are simply too large I'll have to change the plan so that needs to be done before paint...........

I've never suffered from gout, touching wood, but know people who do and if yours is half as bad as theirs then I feel for you mate. Hope it dies down.

Yeah, gout isn't a lot of fun at all... feel for you and hope it goes away soon.
(being stoopid and giving yourself Impact Gout is just plain embarrassing...)

Maybe the childbirth comparison is because of the time frames? Dunno.

Could be.....   damn gout flair ups can last up to a month, I know. I know labor can last for a good long while but not weeks. I can attest to the severe pain... my worst flair up was back in 2013.... they had us crawling around on our knees replacing sod on putting greens then the kitchen whipped up these sweet-meat sandwiches... being poor as I was I snagged about 10 of the damn things and was eating the hell out of them for two days and the combined effect was a knee flair that swoll my knee up about triple size, locked my leg at about a 22.5 degree angle, caused me to totally be unable to walk, was excruciating, got me fired (for missing one day of work), lasted 3 weeks then when it started to subside I still couldn't fully extend my knee for anouther 3-4 weeks so really it was about a 2 month ordeal. It was so terrible that I made rather drastic changes to my diet and it worked pretty well..... only very minor and short-lived flair ups over the last 5 or so years.... until I somehow let the diet go.  Stupid stupid stupid.

But oh yeah... much much much better today. Getting diet back in order and drinking tons of water. Here in a few days once I'm sure the flair is over with, I'll start up some allopurinol to aid in getting rid of the crystals attacking my joints and get my uric acid levels back down. At least I have a plan...

Felt so good yesterday that I used the ability to walk again to get house chores done so no model work but I try that today. Got some yards today then I can relax a bit.

Yikes, that makes the flare ups I have had pale by comparison...
Funnily enough, I find that if I flex the toe joint enough to get it to pop like cracking a knuckle, that seems to work as a preventative.
Pops the bubbles or something, I suppose.

:o Must be hard to work like that... hope it goes away soon.

I've noticed similar recently..... when it was bothering me but just "sort of" I would take hold and pull things apart.... snap.... then hold it loose for awhile. Provided relief! In an all-out flair up, however, I wouldn't dream of even touching the area.  :o ;D

It turns swift projects into how I imagine an 80 year old would do things. Slowly limping through yards..... dope up like mad and go for it. I was actually doing my own yard this last time. Had the pepperoni pizza for lunch and as I was mowing the pain got worse and worse..... by time I was done I could barely walk.. but I finished the yard, damnit.

Ha! Yes, good idea not to!  ;D :o

I'm not arguing because I have had no experience of any pf them but only yesterday a colleague was claiming that kidney stones were the worst pain ever and were worse than childbirth.

Sounds like you've got a good grip on what sets it off and how to put things right.  I can understand the temptation to eat all that "bad" food.

I had a kidney stone.  Went to the doctor, she sent me straight to the emergency room, and one of the nurses there said "yeah, I had one, and a baby- the stone hurt more."  I was like "women have been LYING to me all these years, 'oh, you'll never know the pain...'"

Re: the Thunderbird build: a guy at work loves the A-10.  I told him about "thunderbrrrrt" and he cracked up.  Said he'd love to see it.
