It looks fantastic BTW.

Too right it does.

That scheme has always looked smart to my eyes, and you've made a BLINDER of a job of it Brad.

Thanks!  Gathering my thoughts for the day......  I have to finish painting the gear doors..  I left them un finished until I determined the paint I was using for the under side which only just happened. I also had to cut up the nose gear ones and add putty and shape them to look like the ones that go with the gravel plate fairing on the nose.... so a quick paint up and spray with clear will have them sorted then I can glue on the gear while it dries up and let's see here.... I need to put the vortex disspator things on. I left the attaching arm long to be cut down when I put them on so I can get the proper length. Look how tiny this crap is.. It wasn't too difficult to get these made being simple as they are, but not the easiest thing ever, either!

Also, here's a look at fruits of all my masking and silver/grey painting labor on the underside. Turned out decent enough although I kept bumping into the silver paint and knocking gaps into it and smudging it, etc. Funny thing, though, is it's OK because it makes it look like reflections of things while sitting on the ground so I'm not too concerned about it.

The long national nightmare is over!  ;D

Turned out pretty good I think.

1/144 Airfix(1969) Boeing 737-268C, HZ-AGA Saudia (Saudi Arabian Airlines) as she was delivered in 1972 with full ground kit.

Fotocut PE gravel plate with scratch built connecting mechanisms, new nose gear/gravel plate fairing made of Milliput, modified nose gear doors, filled in the windows, corrected engines (original Airfix) with Milliput spacer, new engine pylon shape using Milliput, stretched sprue vortex dissipaters, & corrected hinge location on tail. The transfers are a mixture of decals between the old ATP and Avigraphics sheets. Rattle can paint for the white and brush painted acrylics for wings, panels, wing interiors, bottom grey section, etc. Rattle can gloss on the white portions and the metal paint on the bottom portion is Champion Sprayon rattle can.

I dragged out some of my previous builds for size comparison including a 737-400, F-4 Phantom, DC-9, etc.

Hands down the most tedious, problematic, and time consuming build I've ever done. It looks so simple.... I mean.. it's just a fuselage, two wings, two engines, and some gear... how difficult can it be? Well.... heh....       ANYWAY

Thanks to Kit for the Fotocut PE. I have a set of stairs left over from it that will go on the back of a 727! I'm planning to do the Northwest Orient 727.... you know the one........ it will be my first "in flight" build for an airliner and the first time intentionally doing an in-flight model, period. I've done in-flight a couple times in the past but only because the kit was designed that way and had no gear. Also, I will be attempting to light it... so.... we'll have a lighted in-flight 727 with lowered rear stairs....  ambitious, for sure.

For now.. time to get started on the Police Cessna and possibly start a 727 (USPS, though, not the DB Cooper thing).

That's come out really nicely, Brad!

Especially like the shiny metallic underside. Well done!

Big thanks!! I'm thrilled with it. I love the colors! This about as fancy as it gets for a boring 737-200, perhaps the world's most mundane airliner.  ;D  Ground kit, cargo door, advanced blah blah blah... real one even has two wire aerial antennas... about all that can be done (real world) to increase the interest of such an ordinary aircraft has been done on this one so it helps and good for the Saudis and all their piles of cash!  ;D ;D

Fantastic Brad C.
I think I like it so much because it makes me think of the Saudia sponsored Alan Jones driven Williams F1 car kit I butchered as a youth.

That, Mr. Brad. is one AWESOME airliner!

Worth a Whiffie nomination for sure, and I have............  ;D

So glad that Fotocut PE worked out well, it's a neat set and very well produced. You'll find the rear airstairs fit a treat, I've already done a Braniff 727-100 using one of those frets.

Unironically enough, I flew on that particular airframe back in '92.  It was the MAC-contracted rotator to Keflavik (with refueling stop at Gander) from Philly, until the contract changed in early '93 and was replaced by a B-757.

Was the tail door locked shut then?  ;D

Only in flight.  Friend of mine works aircraft maintenance for Contin-ited at EWR, and once informed me that because of that incident, 727s and DC-9s were retrofitted or shipped factory new with a "Cooper Vane" to prevent that from happening again.

I've never heard of that, what did the vane look like? I may have to update my Braniff 727-100.  ;D

I bet de Havilland and BAC didn't fit such a vane to their Tridents and 1-11s.  ;D

I guess not.  ;D ;D

How is that supposed to stop the door opening, or does it work in a more subtle way?

[Later] Ah, I see now. I read the Wiki entry and that explains it all. Thanks for the tip.
