Fantastic Brad C.
I think I like it so much because it makes me think of the Saudia sponsored Alan Jones driven Williams F1 car kit I butchered as a youth.

...Thanks to Kit for the Fotocut PE. I have a set of stairs left over from it that will go on the back of a 727! I'm planning to do the Northwest Orient 727.... you know the one........ it will be my first "in flight" build for an airliner and the first time intentionally doing an in-flight model, period. I've done in-flight a couple times in the past but only because the kit was designed that way and had no gear. Also, I will be attempting to light it... so.... we'll have a lighted in-flight 727 with lowered rear stairs....  ambitious, for sure.

I take it you are referring to Dan Cooper?

Hell yeah.....  I'm sure it's been done before (and I'd like to see some pictures, in fact!) but I think it would be entirely cool to make it into a glorified lamp by building up a lighted in flight 727 with the airstairs dropped and I'm open to suggestion on whether to/ how to go about possibly putting a "jumping guy in business suit" flying out the back or tiny cash fluttering in the breeze from an improperly secured money bag or whatever.  ;D

That, Mr. Brad. is one AWESOME airliner!

Worth a Whiffie nomination for sure, and I have............  ;D

So glad that Fotocut PE worked out well, it's a neat set and very well produced. You'll find the rear airstairs fit a treat, I've already done a Braniff 727-100 using one of those frets.

Thanks!!  Hell, I'm looking forward to the project because ... in many ways it should be EASIER making the thing, not having to worry about all the fiddly gear or filling in windows. The challenge will be properly lighting it because I know very little about that type of thing. Like... do I need a micro drill to drill out the holes for the red and green nav lights? Are there tiny leds or fiber optics small enough to illuminate it? What about lenses or what not; how do I make green, red, and normal lights? What if I want to make the strobe function properly? Etc... all these questions about lighting.... THAT will be the challenge.

Unironically enough, I flew on that particular airframe back in '92.  It was the MAC-contracted rotator to Keflavik (with refueling stop at Gander) from Philly, until the contract changed in early '93 and was replaced by a B-757.

Did it smell like thousands of ciggarettes had been smoked inside it?  ;D

Unsurprisingly no.  My guess is when the charter bought it, they gave it a very thorough cleaning.  Before converting it all over to cattle class.

Interesting about the smoke... I hadn't wondered about it until you mentioned being on that 727. I know some... like, houses, damn near have to be condemned after chain smokers leave.

Strobez, yes!!! Why didn't I think of that?! All the info and expertise I'll need is right here at the forum.

Noted. I just fly in them, other than Concorde they're nothing to look at and most are just uncomfortable tubes you fly around in.  ;)

Never been into building them, but I admire people who get the finish they do on them

They do look as if they're extruded sometimes, specially on a manufacturer by manufacturer basis.

How do you tell an A318 from an A321? You have to measure it.  ;D

Wasn't Boeing once called "The Sausage Factory", or some such, during the days of the 707/720/727/737 (100-200) because all four AC had the same fuselage cross section?

I certainly heard the term "sausage factory" bandied about, not sure if it was semi-official though.

Even the latest Max versions of the 737 use the same fuselage cross section.

But Douglas did just the same with the DC9-MD80-90 series, they're all stretched versions of each other.

Then Boeing came in and swiped up the last variant and called it the Boeing 717.   :o     As far as the 737... honestly... they need to stop trying to create more variants and just make a new plane.

Thanks, Chris!!!! Yeah, it's a 737 and some of these things are so mundane and similar to others that it's hard to tell them apart. It took me a long time to figure out some of it and to this day I can have problems with the Airbuses like Kit mentioned and even 767 versus 777.......     Twin engine boring jetliners is the cookie cutter configuration of the future! (and past, in some regards!)  ;D

Quite so. At this time, I can't seem to recollect who first coined the phrase, but there is a saying that the only ways for a gentleman to travel, is by boat (steamer is implied) and train. I will happily admit that I second that to the fullest, and also try to adhere to it also in practice when possible.

As for building them, my main problem is sheer size as I really don't like to leave God's scale..  ;)
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

TheChronicOne

Not much has been going on but I recently purchased 500 clear false fingernails to use as canopies and replacements for other things where they might work. Could offer lots of potential for scratchbuiling, etc, and I swear some of these look like they'd fit right onto existing kits. The size and shape variations are nice and the general size of them lends to 1/72.

$8 for what is essentially a lifetime supply.

Beauty supplies strikes yet again!

As far as the rest.. over the last... whatever weeks.. I've worked a wee bit on the Cessna but that's about it. A lot of real world work and distractions going on right now but I'm working on getting a bunch of it out of the way so I should have a bit more time and motivation soon I hope!
