Thanks y'all! I was going for an aesthetic of some of my favorite toys as a kid and how I loved my police cars with the cool colors, symbols, and lights and stuff and also strike a balance with realism (with the story... it being a PR thing more than something actually used to enforce law). I had to rush through the thing but it turned out better than I thought it would. The clear pieces are just weird though... I think I missed something or.... the front wind screen is just weird in this kit but it looks funny.  ;D    Still, I don't give a damn.. it turned out really cool I just wish pictures did it justice; it looks really good sitting on the shelf.  ;)

I'm supposed to write up all this back story stuff in the thread but I think I sort of explained it in the finished builds things so I suppose it's moot.

My next "planned" project, coincidentally, will have a very similar set of coloration to it.... a USPS Boeing 727-100. It has NO windows other than the windscreen THANKGODABOVEHOLYCHRISTALMIGHTY.  :o ;D

Good job Brad C.

I take it LPD is Lawton Police Dept?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Yup! There's a Star Wars quote about them but I'll refrain.  ;D

Very neat mate

Thanks! I'm going to try to find time for some outside pictures. This thing doesn't photograph very well for some reason... it looks really nice in person but the pictures of it are sub standard.  I'm really quite pleased with it and it's neat to do something for my own city. Were I to have more time I'd try to get some proper Lawton PD symbology made up so I could make a proper livery.....  maybe something for the future!

I was compelled to complete my journey the proper way with some decent pictures so this evening I did that and I think these are better than the others....

"Although everything is done with this I really wanted to get some better pictures and do this a little more how I wanted to instead of the improvised night time desk photos I took. Those photos aren't bad but I didn't have enough overhead and background lights (the red white and blue things in the back are for aesthetic only) and I didn't have time to grab any knick-knacks or anything. Also, I couldn't seem to get many good angles with it it. I believe I've rectified most of this today!

So, I went and found a badge (ok ok, it just says "concealed blah blah blah" but it looks like a good Police badge!), my Blue Line paracord bracelet thingy, and the good ol' Stars and Stripes to complete me patriotic Police theme.

"

I wish I had gotten rid of the stupid power cord (and I looked dead at it and contemplated it and decided not to for some reason lmao) but just ignore that.  ;D

Thanks, Mr. T! Once I got past the windows this wound up being a really fun little project. I'm kind of sad that I didn't get to do any lights on it but then again I think it would have been difficult to do well in the time I had so.... probably better without 'em! I'd like to re-visit this type of thing in the future and make another aircraft with some proper LPD markings. Some stuff like these.... 70's/80's scheme that was around until.... mid 90's or so?

YEAH! There we go! And thanks!  It was neat to make a LAWTON build. I came close with my American Eagle ATR-72 but that's certainly not exclusive to L-town, but this sure is. Not only that, but my cousin is a Captain in the LPD and his wife works as a dispatcher (or did... not sure now, since they started having kids lol). He's going to be chief one of these days, mark my word. But ... that's another connection. Hooray for what-if building & the ability to customize things to that level of association.

On to the next thing! To my non-surprise but dismay and subsequent panic....  the one week GB is definitely upon us but in typical fashion, I'm behind the 8-ball yet again and there are only 3 friggin days left on it.  ;D  I did a blitz build once for the hell of it to try to knock out a build in one day. I accomplished this but also didn't.... It took less than 24 hours, but occurred over the span of two days. At the end I think it was about 10 hours in it? This thing... and by golly, it's one of my favorite "smalls" and turned out really damn nice, in my opinion:

There's something to be appreciated about the phrase "study long, study wrong." Sometimes when you dispense with the penchant to be perfect ... things just flow better and the result is nice. I've builds that took 20X longer than this Mustang that I'm not near as happy with so... take it for what it's worth. BUT ANYWAY.... point being is that I'm reasonably confident that if I can maintain focus, I can come up with something in three days.

With this in mind I burst into the storage room and started looking for what should be simple builds as contenders...... scanning..... scanning........    Then the Focke Wulf caught my eye. Should be simple.... it also has the benefit of being on the very top of a stack so I don't have to dig the damn thing out!  ;D

Turns out to be factory sealed. That's pretty neat I guess. Seems I messed up the corner. Oh well, not going to be a collectible anyway, I'm tearing this bitch open! lmao  Time to build, not to make wall decor.

Check it out!  $0.39   What a steal!

1965! Someone can do the math and adjust that 39 cents price to 2021 money if they are so inclined to provide further trivia for this endeavor....   Speaking of, 1965...  means this kit is 56 years old. That's pretty cool!!!  (edit corrected math; forgot to subtract the 5)

So now on to what to do with it... I had thoughts of maybe making it Japanese but I'm having a hard time finding appropriate transfers so I'm thinking... of something else. I have some contenders and for some reason GREECE is getting the gears grinding a bit.... Hellenic FW-190?  Why not, I suppose....  I could try to cobble together a reasonable backstory or just "let it ride" and let the viewers come to their own conclusions. We'll see.. I may not even go with that... but.... it could be neat... I could make some sort of three color camo for it... perhaps reminiscent of the A7s.

61? :o

Don't push it, lad! I was born in 1962 & I'm only turning 59 next month! ;D

Hate to break it to you but your kit's only 56 years old. ;)

Even the cheapest FW.190D-9 that I could find was AU$11.95 (HobbyBoss).

So, that works out to a 3064% increase in price, or roughly 54.72% per annum (not compounded & ignoring differences in currencies).

;D Damn, thanks! Bad math on my part, good on yours and with the trivia to boot. I somehow stopped thinking after adding 60 to 60 then adding the 1 for 2021. I forgot about subtracting the other five.  That's what I get for not checking my math. I'm in a hurry, so that's my excuse.

So, about a 3,000 percent difference for the listed price..... but I was wondering more along the line of what the actual 39 cents would be these days adjusted for inflation. I imagine it's probably pretty close to that $12 if I were to guess, though! ......    Wait, I went and looked it up on some inflation calculator thing and it said $3.33.  ;D  I figured it would be more so maybe that 39 cents WAS an actual steal and not just a joke on my part. Also... notice the misprint on that flap... the "Lindberg" is missing. Maybe it was left open to provide a place for the price stamp? Then again.... "Lindberg" is printed on the other side as normal so who knows.... another bit of interesting trivia.

Update... I'm trying to get as much done as possible and quickly so I've decided to build almost the entire thing before painting it, including the interior stuff. I've clipped out a bunch of crap and even sanded and filed it clean and started gluing things together so I guess it's official and I need to make a thread for this. Check this out.... one thing I've noticed so far is that the parts look really nice. Almost zero flash and so far no fitment issues. One pretty neat feature is that the tail planes are one solid piece... no halves or quarters... and it installs through the inside when the fuselage halves are glued together. This is pretty handy at this point because they won't be painted a seperate color. Tomorrow I hope to be into paint.

You've probably just ruined a rare boxing with the "missing Lindberg" flaw valued at $1,000+ by collectors.

That would be my luck.  ;D

So, it's just prior to me leaving for work but as I sat here communicating and drinking my coffee I continued to glue things on this FW.  It's a proper plane now. /Cockpit and all the wings are on. when I get back I'll prime and start painting.
