That's an interesting piece. Slightly out of the usual

They've got enough stuff parked on gates or poles to build a complete Army and Air Force!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Went to the former Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois today.

They were doing rallycross there. Sad to see these big old hangars go to waste.

There was an air museum at Chanute until a few months ago. Would've been a great place to visit. The collection's now being dispersed all over.

That's literally my old stomping grounds. I can't tell you how many times I've seen the Cobra in Collinsville, for instance. I still have a lot of family in that area.

Technically, the KC-135 and C-141 at "Scott AFB" are actually at Mid-America Airport in Belleville. They have a taxiway joining them, but they're actually separate. Also, that "howitzer" in Stirling, IL is actually an M5 3-inch anti-tank gun, but it looks funny since the gun tube is back in what I guess is travel mode. They're all over the place in the US, actually. I can think of a half dozen VFWs with those out front. Not a great combat history for that gun, but they make for good-looking display pieces.

Sad about Chanute. The collection was always neglected, but very extensive. I went there a few times.

Cheers,

Logan

In the last few years a small, dedicated team had been doing good work at Chanute - first on the P-51H, then the T-6 (SNJ?) which both looked stunning. I'd recently started following the T-6 project which made the news that much sadder.

Yeah, I saw the P-51H after it was restored. The fact of the matter is that those restoration projects aren't the ones getting the scrapper's torch, though. I hope the XB-47 survives the tragedy...

Cheers,

Logan

Spotted at the Doolittle Raiders 75th anniversary events in Urbana, Ohio yesterday.  You still have time to get to the USAF museum in Dayton for the actual anniversary commemoration this Tuesday...

Captain Canada

Wow look at all the B-25s ! I bet I have seen that B-26 when she was still with Air Spray and based at Red Deer.

I'll have to check my pics at home from my first trip there in the late 90s.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
