Stoopid Woody.

It's odd how the muse strikes. I was all set up to build a V8 Ford Sierra as my second Old Kit GB entry and then while reading a copy of Hot Rod Deluxe I was struck by a tyre ad featuring a photo of a whitewall cheater slick*.
This got me thinking about a the Revell Mothers Cherry Pie 31 Ford Sedan Delivery I built as a kid on which I painted whitewalls on the slicks.
I don't have the 31 Ford in the stash (and they haven.t repopped the Delivery AFAIK so prices are steep) but I do have two and a half of the Monogram '30 Woody (original moulds 1965 https://www.scalemates.com/kits/266867-monogram-pc103-woody-wagon) none of which I bought. For some reason people keep giving them to me.
I shall be using this version which is a very recent release (2010?).

It has had additional parts added in the fifty odd years they've been knocking them out (wheels & tyres, Deuce grille, steering wheel etc) but I will not be using them.
I will be kitbashing though. In keeping with the rules of this GB I will be using this engine from an AMT 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air...

...and these wheels (AMT Meyers Manx Beach Buggy) and tyres (Rears - Mickey Thompson cheater slicks from MPC 76 Dodge van. Fronts - AMT skinny Firestone bias plus they put in everything during the eighties.

Scalemates doesn't list the Chevy or the original issues of the Manx but I am confident both are pre 85.

*A car tyre with no tread on it, except for a couple of grooves just deep enough to comply with regulations covering tyre tread. Oh, and the outside wall of the tyre is white.

The Manx has 2 part styrene tyres which dates it and I remember building one of the '50 Chevys when I was about 14 in 1981.

Another coat of white on the whitewalls today, tidied up the slightly gluebombed engine (attaching the optional Fisher 12 port cross flow head) and added 12 scale inches into the chassis.

It's slightly confusing as there are two 31 Ford Woody's in Revell Boxes.
This one was originally a Monogram kit and is 1/24 scale It has a 6 carb v8 and cannot be built stock.
The other version was an original Revell kit (although confusingly the release I have is branded Revell Monogram) which is 1/25 scale with a 4 cylinder "banger" engine, turning steering, opening doors, skinny wire wheels and a spare wheel cutout in the mudguard. The version I have can only be built stock (although it has no instructions so I could be wrong).

This is the last one I built (1/24 Monogram - same boxing as the pic above). Engine is a ford flathead from (probably) a Revell '40 Ford Standard Coupe.

Today i've cleaned up the chassis extension and then reglued it where it came apart. I then cut and shut the rails just behind the gearbox mounts to lower the front end. I glued the gearbox onto the engine and put what i hope is the last coat of white on the tyres.

Some progress pics.
I've been chipping away at this fettling the rolling chassis and scratching up some engine mountings.
I've now got the stance sorted. I've pie cut the chassis at about the point were the firewall is, extended and flipped the front (reversing the front cross member allows lower front suspension) and shortened the rear.

Front axle is a resin item from www.thepartsbox.com. Its one of their older "non wired" versions which will sag over time (don't ask me how I know this) so i've reinforced the ends with styrene sheet. I've also shortened the body.

Does the cab need to come back a few mil to get the arches over the tyres, or is that just the angle of the photo?

It's the angle and the rear wheels were not pushed properly onto the ends of the axle.

I haven't decided what colour to paint the small area of metalwork. Maybe white following Brad's Santa suggestion. The body will be wooden as will most of the interior and some of the roof.

My favourite part was building the engine. It's a 7 1/2 litre broad arrow 12 built from 1 1/2 Ford V8s.

Jeepers, I hadn't noticed that! Awesome stuff.

Which engine did you start with? It looks a bit like the DOHC Indy engine used in the Lotus 38 with those inlet trumpets in the centre of the V.
