Well returning from the short diversion that was box-tops / box-art (I'm sure we'll meander back that way again!  ;D)

Most of the air-frame is painted and finished and waiting for decals. Now if I can just get the fiddly tail and rudder correct

Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Given half a chance, yes i'm sure we will.   ;D

I do like your tail design.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Meander mode on I must admit I missed the last two messages on the previous page, which meant the Jo Kotula comment didn't read quite right. However reading back and "Googling Jo Kotula" as suggested  does impress. He certainly had a prodigious output meander mode off

Now going to go and put the blue on the Sea Fury rudder  ;D

Nice job Rick, those are EXACTLY the same as the FROG kit's box art. I've still got most of the boxes too.  ;D

IIRC Air Lines was the name that the US issued FROG kits appeared under, but the cards must have been an Air Lines specific thing as they're not on the back of the FROG kit's boxes as they usually had the paint scheme from the model there.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Not quite Kit, but close.

According to the 'Big Book', Air Lines kits were all ex-Frog, which were imported, re-boxed and sold in the USA by the Lines Brothers between 1964-66.

It goes on to say,

Apparently, there was an agreement between Lines Brothers and Testors, Frog-made plastic parts, plans and decals were sent to Testors who did the one-piece boxes with painting instructions and collecting cards.

Only 39 kits are listed and all in 1/72 scale.
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Well it looks like I left Meander Mode in the on position!

Anyway, my model is now complete

Backstory is that a group of shore based personnel requested permission to pant an aircraft in a special scheme as part of the naval Coronation celebrations taking place before and after the main event of the 15 June 1953, Coronation Fleet Review taking place at Spithead.

Once agreement was given, further discussion led to the idea that the paint scheme should commemorate the advent of the 800 series naval squadrons which occurred in 1933, hence "The Spirit of '33" was born. With the replacement of the Hawker Sea Fury taking place in the FAA at this time, permission was given to use a Sea Fury air-frame as the 'canvas' for the special scheme.

Sea Fury '33' was actually made up of two grounded air-frames and was never meant to fly, but it appeared as a static display at several air shows during 1953

and what I was trying to achieve was something similar to this

Love the box art as well, first I've seen of that !

IIRC that's the same box art as the original FROG moulding, or pretty darn close anyway.

That is the same artwork as the second box style that the Frog SeaFury had. When it was originally issued it had the standard FROG box that had a three view drawing on the front in colour.

Alle kunst ist umsunst wenn ein engel auf das zundloch brunzt!!

Sic biscuitus disintegratum!

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Any aircraft can be improved by giving it a SHARKMOUTH!

And today's second NM masterpiece  What we're missing here now is a yellow wing F4U5 ;D Great work .

I have had plans for a "Yellow Wings" Corsair and Hellcat for a while. Just need to get over my fear of large areas of yellow paint  :banghead: Next time I'm near a Halfords I'll get a couple of spray cans.

Nearly all the Halfords around here are on out of town shopping centres or stand alone in the middle of no where. Great if you drive, but if you don't  :banghead: Next time I'm in Sutton

My Buddy Luke Staredsky did a Wildcat in those colors from the Hobbyboss kit and it turned out marvelous:

He has a website (plasticmodelsworld.com) that is really good.

Anyway, here's his write up: http://www.plasticmodelsworld.com/node/1069
