Brief update, as I've been going back through and making sure things are still there and adding a few more.  2130 aviation museums, 2019 miscellaneous entries (mostly memorials,) 12124 gate guards/air parks/other display planes.  For a total of 16273 entries.  Google Maps will let me have 20000 on the map, so a ways to go, probably will mostly be memorials as I think we've pretty well covered the museums and will only turn up a few more display planes here and there.

There is a stained glass window in the Hall at Goodrich Castle commemorating the work of the RAF Radar units at Defford, Pershore and Malvern and the tragic loss of a Halifax radar testbed with scientists on board.

Ooooh, so presumably the Maia/Mercury pair took off from the Tay?

I never knew that before.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I've got press cuttings reporting it!   Dad was given a set of scrap books in early 1940 by an older lad  (Reg) who'd just joined the RAF.  They are full of press cuttings from 1936 to 1940...........and are absolutely fascinating!

As an aside , Reg survived the war and having served as a Transport Command pilot emigrated as a £10 Pom. His youngest son lives in Freemantle and I'm still in intermittent touch with him by email.

Now there's a pastime that survived through to about the early 60's and then dissapeared, keeping a scrapbook. Some of the ones you see on Antiques Roadshow go for a fair old bit
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I've found a few scrapbooks headed for the trash bin and kept them, even if I don't have any connection.  Too much interesting information in there, organized well.

It's becoming an increasingly difficult challenge:  "Can you find a museum/memorial that Reddfoxx DOES'T know about?!"
