Added everything on here so far.  We now have more than 1300 sites- almost 1000 museums, more than 250 gate guards and air parks, and about 50 other sites including factory tours, restaurants with plane themes, etc.  The gate guard section is the fastest-growing, and will surely be the largest.

Awesome progress!  As I've said before, we've been lacking something like this on the internet for awhile. There's stuff out there.. but... it's always missing SOMETHING.

Keep it up, bro!

Well, this is always going to be missing something, because while I feel close to getting done with the actual museums (say 75% there,) the gate guard and air park section is going to keep me going for a loooong time.  I appreciate the comment and hope to make it as complete as possible.

Further progress: I finally figured out how to reset the default view so that it doesn't show Dayton (though that is an appropriate place for an aviation map.)  The key?  Click on "reset default view," which I have seen every day for months since it is in the same menu as the "Save map" command.  Sigh.

In related news, I have dreamed about air museums for the past two nights, so I may need to slow down a bit...

Captain Canada

Wow...what an excellent resource ! Thank you so much.

Thank you!  I slowed down for a few days due to family life, the election, etc., but I will get back on it this weekend.  Let me know if I've missed any Canadian museums.

Thanks to the stupidity of the USAF you can scratch the two guardians at RAF Croughton that I mentioned on October 22nd.  :banghead:

QuoteRAF Croughton, actually a USAF communications base, has an F-100D and an F-105G on their gate, although it's difficult to see them from the road as they're quite a way back. Lat-Long 51.99647,-1.18964

They actually SCRAPPED both the F-105 and the F-100, and the Thunderchief was the only one in the UK!!!!  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

In fairness to the USAF, it wont have been them that ordered the scrapping. The airframes were the property of the USAF museum.

The contract to maintain them was held by the Midland Air Museum, which normaly only covered external cosmetic maintance.

And I'm betting MAM were asked if they could take them on on indefinite loan. They already have an F-100, and probably couldn't sort out the dismantling and transport for the 105, its also possible that the airframes were structurally unsound meaning that it wasn't viable to try and move them .

So it would have been the USAFM that ordered the scrapping.

According to the latest 'Aeroplane Magazine', the F-105 was in quite good shape, and just needed a re-paint.

I said it was possible they were unsound.

I doubt the magazine got that close to the airframes to inspect them internaly to see what state they were in. I know the guys from MAM all had to be security checked for each visit and were escourted at all times while on the base.
So some bod from a UK magazine, however highly regarded is unlikely to get better access than the guys who were hired to keep the two airframes looking ok.

The USAFM is completely under the control of the USAF, and is an official part of the USAF,
so ultimately any determinations regarding asset disposal are a USAF decision.

The exact location of the F-4 at the Key West NAS is 24.584964, -81.690046 , still trying to locate the A-5

Ah, got it, just north of the F-4 at 24.585863, -81.690728

And just found a Prowler at 24.582994, -81.689764

San Antonio de los Banos Air Base, Cuba, there is a selection of different aircraft at 22.859101, -82.515497

Looks like a MiG-17, an A-26, can't see the rest clearly. Can't find a MiG-21.

Dang, wish I'd known about the Tuskegee one when I was in Detroit a few months ago.  If only someone were putting together a map with these places  ;D

Thanks for all the suggestions, especially the coordinates- that helps so much.  Not that it isn't fun swooping around in Google Earth looking for planes, but it is time-consuming.  I will add and correct things later today.
