Here's a new one for you, an F-35 fibreglass mockup has been installed at Samlesbury next to the English Electric Lightning model.

Until I looked at a linked vid from that one I didn't even realise they were building the F-35 airframes at Salmesbury!  :o

Cool, thanks!  I had it on there as "coming soon."

The map now has more than 2800 entries, of which just over 1400 are museums.

Not sure quite where to post this(mods please move it if you think appropriate).  Not a gate guard but a stained glass window; a memorial to the staff of the Radar Research Establishment  at Malvern and Defford.   It's at Goodrich Castle, overlooking the river Wye, between Monmouth and Ross.  If I can get my act together, I'll try to post pix.  There's a Halifax, Chain Home Aerials and lots of unit crests pictured.

Cool.  There is a "miscellaneous" section on the map, and I put in memorials when I can find them.  I will add that.  If you have a more exact location, such as a particular building or GPS coordinates, please let me know.

You might be interested in a Facebook group I just discovered about aviation memorials.  I will post the name and link when I find them.

How do you feel about memorials to aircraft carriers? I have seen a stained glass window for HMS Glorious in a church.

We could go all the way and include the numerous village signs that incorporate aircraft, mostly near to WW2 airfields.

Those would be appropriate, I think.  I try to put on anything an aviation history enthusiast would be interested in.

The memorial group is "Aviation Memorials Worldwide."

At the Nanton Lancaster Museum in Alberta, there's a commemorative wall made of granite which has all the names of RCAF aircrew that were killed during WWII engraved on it. I could send you some photos I took of it when I attended the official unveiling which the Federal Minister for Defence at the time did the honours.

Wow.  Impressive and sad.

Tucked away inside a room at the American Air Museum at Duxford, is the names of all 8th AF (IIRC, its been 12 years) who lost their lives flying out of England.

Wow, again.  I was there a few years ago, but didn't see that.  The wall outside with all the planes (and people) lost made an impression on me.

I should make a correction, the "wall" has only aircrew listed who were killed while serving in 'Bomber Command', some 10600+. This is because the museum is dedicated to members who served in Bomber Command.

Yup, seen that one in St Peter's church on the Eastern side of Ullswater.......the only way to get an aircraft carrier in a lancet window is a view from above! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Peter%27s_Church,_Martindale

Another for the list is the Sunderland Flying Boat heritage centre at Pembroke Dock.  Memorials to crews and lots of fascinating things to see (and very good coffee too) http://www.sunderlandtrust.com/ No actual aircraft, but there's a Civilian Sunderland ....the Solent.... at Solent Sky museum in Southampton http://www.solentskymuseum.org/

Thanks.  Added the HMS Glorious window.  The two museums are already on the map.  There are so many I forget what we have...

Inside the nearby Irish Ferries terminal they have lots of pics of the Pembroke Dock area when it was a Sunderland base. The terminal building stands on part of the hardstanding of the base.
