Added the Irish Ferries terminal to the "miscellaneous" section. Sounds pretty neat.

This one is perhaps a little unexpected, but worthy of inclusion!!

The Lake District national park people earnestly  request that no attempts are made to repeat this exercise!!!

Added!  Thanks for sharing that great story.

And no-one took any photos???  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

I've seen that plaque before but it proved elusive on my last visit due to the fog! An Avro 585 looks to have been an improved Avro 504R here http://www.yorkshire-aircraft.co.uk/aircraft/lakes/ebph.html

Another one for the map is the Sea King Junglie at Vector Aerospace, Main Road, Gosport, Hampshire.

I know exactly what you mean! A group I took up there 4 years ago were tempted to add to it "Nick Culshaw landed here too"  after he tripped over it and went down flat on his face in less than perfect conditions (30 knot fog, with some added  sleet)

Added the Sea King, thanks, Nick!

I can't claim to have the precise location of that plaque; took my best guess and put it near the summit.

Not sure quite where to post this(mods please move it if you think appropriate).  Not a gate guard but a stained glass window; a memorial to the staff of the Radar Research Establishment  at Malvern and Defford.   It's at Goodrich Castle, overlooking the river Wye, between Monmouth and Ross.  If I can get my act together, I'll try to post pix.  There's a Halifax, Chain Home Aerials and lots of unit crests pictured.

Added later:-

If we're doing church windows then we must add in Lincoln Cathedral. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4115631

That spot on Helvellyn will do, people will have to open their eyes and find it themselves!

There's a nice memorial just outside Brighton at Ditchling. When Richard Demetriadi was shot down in the Battle of Britain his parents bought some land there for preservation by the National Trust. You can see for miles out across the English Channel from there.

Is the Ditchling one at 50.90032, -0.10631?  I have it added temporarily till we're sure.

Memorials and windows are certainly relevant.  I started the map and FB group to record all the museums in the world that have aviation exhibits, and have expanded it to include anything that would interest aviation history enthusiasts such as myself.  So, gate guards, memorials, even factory tours and planes converted to restaurants.

We now have more than 1400 museums, more than 2800 sites total.

If you're into memorials, you might want to check out the FB group Aviation Memorials Worldwide:

That's close enough for me. There is a little plaque in the circle car park but the actual memorial is a couple of large fields. Maybe you could add some more detail to the description?

reddfoxx

I moved it up the hill a bit and added a description. Planes are hard enough to find sometimes, but smaller things can be a bear.

There are now more than 3000 sites on the map.  Just over 1400 museums, and new additions have slowed way down.  Gate guards are trickling in, as I have time to add them, and a few museums pop up while searching for those.
