Damn, they were so young! :(

Yup. And when you go around the WWI graveyards they are even younger  :-\
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

So young, all of them.

Can anyone point me to a precise location for the memorial?

I have these reports (above) on the accident, and a local newspaper describes the memorial as being "at Highfield Farm, Wythall"

I'll try to find a precise map reference for you.

Heads up for a future memorial     https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-50055985

The article begins:- Plans to build a life-size memorial of a Spitfire to honour the people who secretly built the iconic plane have been unveiled.

During World War Two more than 2,000 Spitfires were built in secrecy in Salisbury after Southampton's Spitfire production facilities were bombed.

The £100,000 campaign will see the memorial placed next to a wartime Spitfire factory site in Castle Road.

It is planned to be ready for the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

There's also this memorial    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-50033917  Yes, I know it's a ship not an aviation memorial, but I assumed that colleagues would be interested.

Do you have the 'Skeletal Spitfire' that's on a pole at the entrance to Southampton Airport in the south of the UK?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

We have the "Spitfire prototype replica" there, looks to be pale grey.  Is that it?

Sounds about right, it used to be made from stainless steel rod and tube, but I see they've now covered it and painted it.  ;D

An update for the new year:

We have more than 7000 sites on the map!  1690 museums, 4842 gate guards and other display aircraft, and 491 miscellaneous sites.  I have no doubt we will get to 1700 museums; who knows, maybe even 2000 someday.

Thank you for your posts and comments.  The museum list is probably the most complete on the Web.  The museums keep trickling in, and other sites are also added as often as possible.
