Sure it will!  Well... I guess unless it comes down to aesthetics between the E and G and not skill!   I dig 109s but if I were to look at one I wouldn't be able to say which one it was...  I have no idea the visual cues that distinguish them.  I also haven't much of a clue about the differences between innards.

The way I think about it is that the Gs (actually F's & later) have a round nose and the Es (and earlier) a flat one.  And yes, I know that is vastly simplifying it and that there is more going on under the skin.

Yup, that's the way I've always looked at it - angular = early models ; curvaceous = latter models

Sweet! That helps out quite a bit actually. The F model there has an overall smoother nose and appears a bit longer overall in part thanks to the rounder spinner opposed to the flat one.  And always a pleasure to feast my eyes on Clave's works!!! 

Was there not also quite a substantial differences between certain canopies? I know the Avia s.199 for instance has like a less cage like, more boxey-glassey type canopy (I doubt that makes much sense but hope you get the meaning) that a lot of 109s had as well (being pretty much the same airframes).  I remember really liking that canopy. I have a couple s.199 in the stash.

The 109 canopies got less framey with time and then they adopted the "Erla Haube" canopy at some point.

I've always understood that to be called a "Galland" hood.

So did I.  But I googled bf 109 canopy and every time a pic showed one like that it said Erla Haube.

Erla Maschinenwerk was an aircraft company that was commissioned to build planes from other companies during WWII, they built several 109 models and as they also had liberty to improve the designs they built, the new haube or canopy, was introduced with the G-10 by the end of 1943, and eventually replaced the old canopy on following variants.
This is one of the details on late 109 variants that i really like, it gives the plane a more modern look, but i like all variants of this beautiful airplane.
I've got an Italeri 1/72 Bf-109 F built but not totally painted, it was the second model i built when i got back to modelling in 2013 but looking at it again, i may end up finishing it after all.
Also have the Airfix E in the stash and want to buy  the G and K variants, it's such a small kit in 1/72 so there's room for all the variants on the display shelves.

Agree totally. I makes the aircraft look so much different from the heavier framed versions.

I think the term Galland Hood was something that cropped up in some post war Western European aviation books and then somehow became a recognised term even though it wasn't used by the Luftwaffe.

A late model 109 with a cut down rear fuselage might look quite good, like a late Spitfire XVI perhaps.

But then they'd spoil it all by calling it a 309 or something.................
