From a technology perspective, I think that a B-52 will be hard to repurpose into something very different. An MPA, possible, but you would really have liked more crew stations. So I think I'll have to work out a backstory where the US falls apart and the more reasonable parts of the union swiftly scramble a credible deterrent to keep the boondocks and their colourful Dear Leader at bay. That would mean new national insignia, though, unless we assume that the Daft Boys go full way and take up the old Confederate insignia. Hmm..

I did buy that Deuce after all, and a Finnish issue of the Heller Fouga Magister as well, as it'll travel in the same package. Winning those did improve this day somewhat at least.

Repurpose the bomb bay into crew stations, mount your torpedoes and ASMs on the exterior pylons.  Sonobouy dispenser can be aft of the rear mains, and the former tailgun for MAD gear.

That's pretty much what they did with the E-Recce RB-47s. The 'Ferret' crew members went down into the bomb bay compartment once the aircraft had taken off, but would have had to come back up to the main deck d they'd had to abandon ship. Quite why the USAF didn't just keep the bay doors working and just blown them open in case of need I don't know, but they didn't.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Travelling for work, and this time to Uppsala, incidentally where they're currently reestablishing a RSwAF wing. Most of the organisation is set up, as is training of personnell, but no aircraft of their own yet, AFAIK. However, in order to keep up to speed, every now and then, one of the other wings sqns will pop in and hang out for a few days, performing flight ops as if they were local. Yesterday was such an evening, and as the town really hasn't adjusted yet, apparently the local police got rather overrun by worried citizens wondering whether WWIII was already hot. Personally, I have to admit I found that equally amusing and worrying. One would have hoped people would be more aware of the rest of the world..

Ah, well. I got a few glimpses of JAS 39C Gripens sodding off QRA style. Afterburners do light things up a bit..  ;D

B-52 fire bomber ..very peaceful life saver 😌
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

I think the BUFF stays mean. I just can't decide who's going to use her.  ;)

Finally Friday. And the weather's been absolutely lovely today. Sunny, no wind and almost 17C. Unheard of at this latitude in early March. Even the furry little beast enjoyed it to the fullest.

Cleaning the desk, I came to stumble upon my old Airfix Lightning. Not that it's been hidden in a pile or something, but it's just been at the front for a month or rather three. It's still a nice build, though, and somewhere there's a faint flicker of mojo in my chest when I'm handling it.
For a moment, I considered making it Irish, just because, but the more I think about that, the more likely it seems the Irish, at least from the late 60's and onwards, rather would have chosen something not British. Or at least not that British. Also, it seems unlikely the Irish would have kept the refuelling probe, and I'm not losing that on this model. But is does warrant some thought.

In the meantime, I will carry on with the remaining modifications on the Lightning, such as a fin RWR and a couple of light missile pylons under the outer wings. Well - obviously I'll have to actually get to the point of modelling at all first. And as that's subject to me reaching a certain level of peace first, there's no guarantee of that actually happening this weekend either..
Who lives shall see.

Not to end on such a depressing note, here's another possible operator, the pic nicked from our sister site, the BtS.

Again, I find it a bit unlikely the Danes would have kept the probe, but it is nevertheless a nice scheme..

A Danish Lightning, cooer.

That's TWICE as much 'burnt exhaust pipe' painting as on an RDAF F-100.

Another Great Plan woefully thwarted by work. Ah, well. I'm feeling some mojo returning, so any day now, perhaps..

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The USAF was experimenting with B-52s as strike aircraft against possible Soviet ships using Harpoon missiles. This was quite some time ago. I get the feeling they're not doing it anymore.
