I just couldn't be arsed to modify them, so I made the backstory work them in.

That's my basic principle  ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Kit's Second Law of Whiffing applies.  ;) ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I assume the First Law has something to do with wingspan?  ;D

Absolutely!

It's written right here at the bottom, just above my signature.  ;D

And for the record, the 2nd Law states 'The backstory can always be modified to suit the model'  ;)

Yeah!!! There we go!! One of my favorite tricks to employ. It's not a flaw in our world but a design feature.

Another hot day in southern Scandinavia. Lots of children logistics today. Having two kids off and one working but not driving mean you're basically a one-man taxi company. With awful pay.

Anyway - I managed to do some first round long overdue touching up on the Valiant tanker, and while at it, the Super Sea Vixen got a coat as well. There's still lots and lots to do on both (and that sodding Javelin isn't completed either) but as usual, I do it in my own pace, because it's pleasing.
And then, as described elsewhere, I received and sorted my weapons buy. Lots of stuff, more than anticipated, so I'm quite pleased. The mystery munitions problem persists, but in worst case, I'll just treat it as usual and write them in in a backstory of some kind. They do look distantly French, like the BAP 100 anti runway munition, or the BAT 120 antitank munition. Or - better - someone cracks it and I can use it in an even better way. It's really nice of those of you having had a guess already, but it would be cool to crack, wouldn't it?

I'll link in the comparative pic here as well for the benefit of anyone wanting to have a guess.

From the top:
- Sidewinder
- ASRAAM
- Rockeye CBU
- Mystery munition

All in 1/72, and as you can see, it looks as if it's a short and slim thingy. And there's 24 of them, so most likely carried on some kind of multiple rack.

Tomorrow morning, there's more taxi work to be done, but the weather looks as if it will turn a bit less hot and maybe even add some light rain. That might give me a good excuse for actually paint some more. Missiles, f.i. I really don't like painting missiles, but what can you do? The models as a rule look decidedly better with some loadout.

Right - bedtime. God knows this one needs all the beauty sleep he can get..

Holiday weather over here, coinciding with weekend - no modelling time whatsoever. Managed some smallish touch ups on the Valiant (there's more to be done) and discovered that I've masked the demarcation line between override hemp and underside light grey differently on the two tanks. F&@%!!
Ah well, just do it over again.

New working week for everyone but me tomorrow, but we'll see if I can get something done. I'd like to build something for the recce GB but I really don't know what it would be. But we'll see. A proper stash run-through might generate something.

Back to holydaying

Or simply say the "erks" in charge either weren't on speaking terms or one lot had the plans upside down ?

or that they had a problem with the tank and needed to change it off of a different airframe  ;D
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.

But thanks for the flexible ideas..

I wouldn't worry about minor inconsistencies in your build. Backstories are infinitely flexible and Narses' suggestion seems perfectly plausible to me!    "The "erks" in charge either weren't on speaking terms or one lot had the plans upside down".      I certainly don't consider this in any way "sloppy"

To slightly misquote the American  philosopher Ralph Waldo Emmerson  "Foolish consistency and accuracy are the hobgoblins of tiny uncultured minds".    This seems to me to be a moment when you declare an "Emmerson" and move on.

There is nothing whatever wrong with being lazy; just enjoy the sensation whilst it lasts...........I do!

I might just align the demarcations somewhat anyway. To get some peace for that tiny and uncultured mind..  ;D

Take a good look at real operational aircraft (where the tanks aren't specific to an individual aircraft), you end up with all sorts of combinations; high demarcation/low demarcation/camouflaged/bare-metal/you-name-it.

Redid the demarcations anyway. Yes, I'm boring.

Another Valiant question:
On various paint guides etc, I can see three black fields under the belly of a B(K).1. Two circular between the bomb bay and the nose gear, and one oblong field to the rear of the bomb bay, on the hatch that can be drawn in to give free way for the falling bombs. See below

What are these? Antennae? It's in particular the rear one that interests me.

Sod all modelling today. Yesterday, not much more, but I managed to almost complete the touch ups on the Valiant tanker. At this pace, it actually might get its decals and Matt varnish on before Christmas , believe it or not..   ;D

Tonight, I'm at the summerhouse. My eldest farmhand daughter is working on an island nearby for two days, so we're crashing here for an odd night. Good fun, actually. Iterate to have one of the kids for yourself like this, and my, is she developing fast right now
This evening, the farmer called and they planned for tomorrow. "I overheard you running the boys today. Awesome work, I can't remember when they last got that much job done, but you know, you don't have to take on the worst poo-poo jobs yourself. If you already are bossing them, make them do it for you instead!"
Those boys are two and three years her senior and should be more experienced..  ;D

Anyway - tomorrow, I might have a few hours on my own, and I brought a couple of old Buccaneers with me to see if I can make something from them. The plan are one RAF and one FAA bird, but somewhat updated to better cope with the late eighties/early nineties threats. I.e. give them what they never got as the RAF chose to go the Tornado route instead.
But we'll see.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
