Well - not as much as a testfit since the last post, even. I did bring that Whirlwind, but never even unpacked the modelling bag.  Instead, there's been tree felling, log chopping and an ungainly amount of carrying those same logs from the felling place to the splinter. Accordingly I'm physically a bit sore after this weekend, to be honest. I'm not twenty anymore, am I?

And this week, I finally have to get started with the book sorting I have been putting off for a good two years now. Our library (and I'm not referring to the modelling reference library here, but rather the general family library) has been overflowing for ages, books stacked on top of shelves, furniture and heaping in corners. So now I'm clearing our one end, then sorting it back, in order, from Aaronovitch to Zimmer. About 35 m shelf space, all in all. Obviously, my main problem is that it looks to be about 45 m books..
Once through all this, I fear I'll have to continue with the reference library as well, so this will be a several days project. If not weeks..

Boring work like this, however, requires some escapist music. Preferably instrumental such, not to get stuck on lyrics. This time, I'm going for Max Richters variations of Antonio Vivaldi's well known Four Seasons. Some would maybe call this heresy, but I like them. It's familiar, yet different. Hear for yourself:

>>Press for music<<

And do crank it up! Music is best experienced when it embraces you fully.  ;)

Try not to get sucked into actually reading the books.  Just remove, dust, and replace in order.

I have noticed that books will expand to fill the available shelving almost before the varnish is dry.  If you are thinking of adding more shelves make it total at least 50m.
I need more shelves but Mrs z resists, preferring to offload some of her books.

In all honesty, I think I've seen a Mercuryengined Whirlwind built before. Can't remember by whom, though.
There is also an FAA Griffonised Whirlwind somewhere on the web, but I'm fine with that - good ideas are there to be utilised.  ;)

It might have been my creation - even though the Mercuries are just simulations (with cowlings from an Airfix Ki-46)...?  ;D

Quite possible, Thomas, and your Merlin engined FB.2 also comes to mind. And then Dougs Waterspout. So maybe not a revolutionary idea, but still one I like to try.  ;)

Or this, built by some Steve. It's gorgeous, and tbh, that Focke Wulf canopy isn't a mismatch at all

I know the feeling. Last year I rearranged my bookshelves and had a little clearout at the same time. Now though.... the pile of books-to-read is nearly as tall as me and keeps growing.

I do have one shelf at the bottom with space but I can't get to it because of the model kits and tools and paints sitting in front   ;D :banghead:

Sorting books out is an impossible task, I simply open the first one and that's the day gone

Not entirely through the library yet, but at least all the novels are sorted. What's remaining is all the non-fiction stuff, plus the poetry and music. Geography, history/archaeology and science. Annoyingly, all the comics will have to be relocated - there's just not shelf space any more. Ah, well - I think the lad will love to have them in a year or so. I'd better sort him some shelf space as well.

Annoyingly, while sifting through the books, trying to order them chronologically in their respective series, I've learned that some of my more beloved series has been unexpectedly extended, so I will have to make room for even more books.  This will not end well..

No, and I really mean NO modelling for over two weeks now. And my building desk is cluttered with all those bobs and bits that just get laid on top of other things when you're not thinking of where to really put them, so another major cleanup is needed, putting any serious modelling a few days further into the future. Ah, well - it's life.

Worse is that I haven't the faintest what to build when I get to do it again. At this point I'm too far gone from any construction to really feel any inspiration, so looking at your efforts is what's keeping me going. So stick to it, will you!

Now - back to the books.

I've had very similar feelings when sorting my library on a few occasions, tended to find that the easiest way to pick the next kit for the build pile was to go by the whichever box art particularly attracted me and then work from there.

Pick five kits from your stash, Mr P, tell us what they are, set up a poll on the forum and let us choose for you!

Or pick 5 random reference books, get out the kits of the vehicles/aircraft they pertain to and put them aside for when you finish the library tidy.
If you don't then feel like doing any of them, they may inspire other options.

zenrat

Don't force it or resort to gimmicks.  You'll only end up with another unfinished build.
Work on stuff you've already got started and rummage through kit boxes every so often.  Something will grab your interest.
