Looking at the Yak 28 pics i've had a flashback to attaching all those little intakes to the engine nacelles.   :o  :-\

Looks great mate.  The longer solid nose looks so much better than the glazed version.  Unfortunately the second kit in my stash is another glazed version.  I'll have to see what I can find to replace the glazing.
It might also look good with larger diameter engines.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

That is coming together nicely

There's quite a few differences in addition to ther radar nose between the interceptor version and the other Yak-28's. The second seat under the canopy, f.i.
Actually, I'm developing a small craving for a bomber/recce/EW Yak-28 as a companion to this. Hmmm....

That Yak-28 is looking very good!

You could sand down the framing on the clear nose of the other kit (or fill in the glazing) to make it smooth. Leave a few panels clear for the recce/bomber version.

Some meeting time today as well meaning the Flagon's in RfP as well. I'm on fire!!  ;)

Main problem now is how to proceed. I might bring the small MiG-17 to the cottage just due to ease of transport, but maybe, just maybe I should have a closer look at the Tupolev Blinder bomber after all.  Decisions, decisions..

Why agonize over the decision? - Take both!  ;)

The glass nose 28s had the second crewmember seated inside the fuselage ahead of the pilot with a hatch on top.  I'd retain that set up but add a long radar nose ahead of the seat.

I took only the MiG, but maybe I shouldn't. Looking at kit reviews for that KP kit, it seems a lot of dimensions are wrong, and rather major things, such as wing chords, stabilator lengths and sweep and fin size. Altogether, I might have to tape it up to see if it ooks like a Fresco at all. If not, then whif fodder deluxe. And I'll get something else for this build.

Even more annoying is the fact that I was fondling that Esci Blinder a bit before packing the Fresco. Looking at the sprues and the instructions, it's actually most likely a quite quick build. There's definite accuracy problems here too, but as someone who'd looked into that particular issue more thoroughly in a review wrote: "All this said, it's actually a rather good option to just build it oob as it will look just about like a Blinder anyway. As long as you don't measure it up". So that's going to be my strategy. Maybe that'll work for the little MiG as well.

Still mulling on the IRST/unknown under nose sensor on the Su-15TM. Right now, I am considering an upgrade to a MiG-23/25-type IRST, that angular one, you know. It's certainly less conspicuous and it's verifiably working with the relatively modern R-24 series missiles. Also, it'll confuse JMN's. One can't disregard that..  ;)

Today, it's more likely to be a bit full scale construction rather than modelling. There's a wooden deck on the programme, including structures.

A Blinder can ONLY be a Blinder, there's nothing else on the planet that looks even vaguely like it. What's the odd mm between friends anyway?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Annoyingly, we found that we'd forgotten some tools at home, so rather than building deck, we enjoyed this late summer afternoon in the sun, finishing off with a barbecue and a trip in the boat. I can't say I think the trade was a bad 'un, so quite a good day, and that deck can be built another day.

At sunset, we enjoyed a very nice halo phenomenon in the sky. Traditionally, these are called "weather suns" over here, and usually, they appear as an early warning of a shift in the weather. This time, I'm not so sure, though, because the weather seems stable for another couple of days, deteriorating first on Tuesday. But time will tell.

The MiG is still hiding in its box, but looking at it, I think I'm reaching the conclusion only to modify the stabilators. The rest may be annoying if you measure it up properly, but as long as I don't, I think the model will fool me into thinking it is looking alright, much as I hope the Blinder will. But I don't think I'll build anything out here. Maybe tomorrow evening, if I'm not caught up in other chores.

Annoying when you don't have all you thought you had (and needed) for a task.
But I agree the trade was good.

And I don't think many people would take a micrometer to shows and spend time measuring things... and if they're of that type, it's a pretty good option to ignore their opinions/criticisms, anyway.  ;)

kerick

I know a few people with a summer house or lake house and they say all they do is work on stuff while they're there. Good choice to "forget" the tools and just enjoy the day.

That Tu-144 listing on the local Evilbay variant has expired for the second time. I watched it do so, choosing not to act. While having some mixed feelings about that, I actually think, when digging a bit deeper, that it was the correct decision to make. First, while being listed at a quite decent price in comparison to what you have to pay for a brand new one, they were still asking for a sizeable chunk of money. And me, being somewhat going downhill in a professional sense due to the cancer and related problems, have to watch the budget a bit closer than I once did. The current financial situation in the world not helping either.
Second, it's a big kit and I already have about twentyfive bigger kits/models stored, ranging from Vulcans and Backfires to a BUFF And quite a few B707 derivatives. And I already really don't know where to put them all once completed. Adding even further to that.. I don't know.

Third, at all adding to the StashTM in my current health situation is debatable. I will definitely not live forever, end even after having cleared the StashTM of anyth8ng not immediately within my Cold War period of interest, it still is large enough to keep me occupied well beyond my 200th birthday, current building pace maintained. And I wouldn't really want to leave thirty cardboard boxes of kits behind, would I?

Still, in a different world, it could have become a cool Bombcordski, and now it won't. At least not now. That is not ideal..

And how long did it take you to convince the Mrs it was an accident   ;)

I've had similar thoughts and have even gone so far as to explain to my niece, who will be my executor, the stash's approximate worth, she was shocked, and the best places to go, people to to talk to, when it comes to realising that worth.  ;D  Sadly my library although rather large is probably worth "B" all, such is the value of second hand books, which depresses me slightly  :-\ . Still again she has been told of a contact who will take them on for a fair price and above all will not simply burn them

She's not only very well acquainted with my normal all but total lack of memory, but also quite involved in the building works, so she is very well aware that she's supposed to not only recheck my checklists, but also have a think on her own what's needed and not. Hence, we're in it together, and there's no blame throwing at all.
Besides, she's smarter than I am, and she knows it, so he also has a certain amount of pity in me..  ;)

Our son, who's also our youngest, has staked his claims to my kits as well as my reference library. And that's good. I keep him engaged by sometimes having him nick something from the StashTM to build. After all, that's what's supposed to happen with it, isn't it?
