Much sympathy!!  Having had abdominal drains inserted  (a pair of them, one either side) after a cancer operation  I understand better than most  people the discomfort and annoyance these cause.  I was lucky, mine were small and manageable so I could dress and go home with them fitted.

As the military say....."Time spent in reconnaissance is never wasted".........and that's exactly how I view your ebay  studies;  and if you end up with some target material to work on when you get home, so much the better!!

Keep smiling  and get well soon enough to feel better, but slowly enough to take full advantage of  being looked after.

Yes, very much sympathy, as has been said.
I haven't had drains, but I have had a long brush with Pneumonia (took them a year to diagnose...) on top of being long-term Asthmatic, so I can empathize with the shortness of breath thing.
Unpleasant, at best...

Target acquisition is always fun, and ticking off long-wished-for wants is a boost.

As long as you can stay cheerful, that should help - but not easy on occasion, as you observe.

Keep smiling, even when you don't feel like it - it really messes with Murphy.

Good grief, man! What are you trying to do to us? :o

Get that crap dealt with & work out what the Hell is going on! That sort of post-op infection (& the frequency with which you imply you get them) is NOT appropriate!

So stop poking Murphy with that sharp stick - or, indeed, at all...

*What do you want to bet he only does it to spend more time with the cute nurses?   ;)

I don't know what to say.  Just keep on keeping on mate.

Gosh, not good news.  Here's to a speedy recovery and more Skyhawk  'flying time' with your boy in the very near future.

Doesn't sound pleasant at all. Just hope they sort it out as soon as possible so you can get home and make a complete recovery

If browsing E-Bay keeps your mind off your current predicament then see if you can get your Health Service to fund it on the basis that it's therapeutic ?  ;)

I like the way you think...

I would sit on some doctor's desk until they can give you an answer for these infections! Or see different doctors!
Get well ASAP.

Gentlemen

I have taken the opportunity to use you/this forum as a let-off valve. I needed to blow off some steam in a friendly environment and you have answered admirably. Thank you so much!

There's now anything from one to 15 (yes, fifteen) weeks in hospital before being let home, mainly depending on how efficient the drains are. It's just to dig in and get on with it, really. But whining some every now and then will make coping with this destiny easier.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

No problem, you vent and rant all you want - as you said, it's a safety valve and necessary.
We all have things we need to get out and this is about one of the safest places I've come across, so have at it!!

What do they think about building plastic models while in hospital?  ;D ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I suspect they would not be happy about filings, shavings, scrapings, glue, paint...
Lego they might be OK with.

One could write some back stories or sketch some ideas.

Actually, I don't think I have the energy. Tbh, I sleep like 20 hrs a day and fight to keep my eyelids open for the rest of the time. Fighting major infections is apparently tiring stuff.

Occasionally there is nothing better than a good old rant or even a moan, can work wonders. So you let off steam here as and when you want/need to

Hopefully your stay will be at the lower end of the spectrum.
