I'm lucky enough to have been to Sweden, an Avesta stainless plant, in the late spring and I must admit the surrounding area was beautiful in the good weather we had

Best of luck with the hospital
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

My current 17 year old Mazda Tribute (yes, Japanese SUV but I know it's and my limits) is still far too presentable despite it's filthiness.

The Series and Defender Land Rovers are the only cars I am aware of that can treat dents and scratches as styling. On anything else, a dent is a catastrophe that needs to be fixed. Not so much on these. I have to admit that I find this very comforting when changing lanes in town.. ;D

Gondor

I can't remember what time of year I was in Sweden, based in Malmo and travelling to Trelleborg for a couple of days, other than the fact the weather was nice.

I used to work in Sweden quite a bit, usually in Malmo, Goteborg, Linkoping or 'Sodertalye'. The latter in quotes as I can say it but can't spell it!

It was always a lovely place to work unless it was in the dead of winter when the snow was MILES thick, and made getting about am bit difficult

Linkoping was best as it was both the SAAB Aero factory and the Swedish Air Force Museum's site.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Minis can. And early Landcruisers.
And then there is the whole Rat-Rod thing. While a lot of them are dangerous, contrived, eyesores which should be condemned there is something about a scruffy patina'd early Ford with worn paint, a few dings and all the right period tuning parts. It can be faked but time and careful neglect is really the best way to achieve it.

No matter the surface. Dude should've been fined simply for driving an X5 period.

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Sunday. And sunny it is. Somewhat windy, but still warm enough to wear shorts and drive the Defender window down as usual. Speaking of that - I believe I owe you all a pic of the beast, so here she is, debts and all. Having driven Astons, Ferraris and Porsches, and owned a good few Alfa Romeos, this still is the most rewarding drive I've come across, and while being a bit thirstier than your average Passat, not to mention invariably prone to lose parts every now and then, I am happily putting up with all of that to save my soul. And the kids love her about as much as I do.

Looking back, this blog seems, from time to time, to be more a health blog than a modelling blog, but so guess that you write from what's on your mind, and obviously, failing health is pretty much on the top of the list of things occupying a stricken mind.
Last Friday, I saw the surgeon again. As the drain still produces some puss and the ultrasound scan showed less than anticipated healing, the drain stays in for the moment, but worse, the quacks are now talking about having to surgically remove the infection if it won't increase its healing pace significantly. That prospect scares me quite a bit, I have to admit, as we are talking about cutting out a piece of my lung. And no one's really keen on discussing what will happen if the new wound gets infected - which isn't entirely unlikely. Also, if they cut me open like that, it's at least another two weeks in hospital, not something I'm keen on at all. But obviously it's better than dying, so.. <_<

The modelling is, as mr McColm reflected, a very nice way of taking ones mine off the more troubling issues in life, but on the other hand, I feel from time to time that I need a certain peace of mind to at all get something done. That said, it's easier when you're in a flow, so keeping some pace when you're at it is vital. Accordingly, I try to do something most days. These last days, it's been relatively minor things, but yesterday I actually broke a barrier and made some pod fins from plasticard. Originally, these fins were supplied as photo etch, but I hate PE. It's all but useless n exposed positions, so I used them as templates and cut away. And it turned out rather good, so while the glue dried, I painted some other stuff, resulting in one completed model today, ending another project that's been sitting on the shelf of doom, all but completed for years and years. Also another three are nearing completion, among them the British part of an Anglo-French pair, and thanks to Gondor's very nice weapon supply offer, also the French half now seems to be in a positive trajectory towards completion. I'm really happy about this!

This afternoon, after having the mandatory bowl of strawberries (local strawberries is probably the best taste I know, and as the season for them is about five weeks, I actually take the opportunity to get some fresh every day during this short season, almost regardless of effort and cost. It's somewhat daft, I know, but at least I only do it for about a month. Look at the drug addicts..) I intend to do the final touch ups on some Sky Shadow pods, then being able to close off another few projects tomorrow. Happy days!

It's Wye valley strawberries in my case, but I agree that a bowl of locally grown, freshly picked, sun warmed berries is very special! I still have local asparagus for the next couple of weeks................Fruit and veg all taste so much better when you measure the pick-to-eat time in hours (even minutes!) rather than in weeks.

Indeed, freshly picked asparagus wrapped in somewhat better bacon, and then slowly grilled over charcoal..

The not-so-dirty wife is actually setting up the barbecue as I write, preparing a chicken by violently abusing it with a beer can, and if I'm not mistaken, there is some asparagus to go by the side. Some people argue that barbecuing should be a male domain. Here, it's not. I am quite happy to admit my thorough incompetence in all matters barbecued but the eating, but on the other hand, I'm making wicked casseroles in the winter. And the kids have preferred my pancakes basically since they spat out their pacifiers.

The sun is still warm enough to allow for resting outside in a deckchair wearing shorts and a polo shirt. And in forty minutes, that raped chicken will be ready to eat.

A little peek on my work area, or, as it is now, pod factory. All but one of the AN/ALQ-101s are from different kits or weapon sets, but some fins are, as said, handcrafted from plasticard. The last -101 is the one I made a few weeks ago from pc and sprue.

It's a bit interesting to see how different the various manufacturers interpret the not very complicated shapes of the two RAF pods, but I'm not going to do anything about the differences. They'll do with some paint, and as most of them will hang under the wings of rather different aircraft, I think that in itself will help camouflage the differences.

Well - soon it's time to have a kip, but tomorrow, we'll see if we can get some more paint on these darlings.

It's mulberry season over here. Friday at work my boss and I were surveying a building with mulberry trees along the west side. Perfectly ripe and very sweet. Picked and ate as we went.
