A copy of Richard Tanner's 'History of Air to Air Refuelling' arrived from ebay at a VERY good price today.

As Mr Tanner worked for Cobham the book totally ignores the Boeing 'Flying Boom' system, and details every single FR Ltd hose drum ever made. 

Now I wonder of there's a thread running on here that I can bury with a few 'facts' from the book............

Now I just need to get the two volumes containing the novels and short stories.

I too have the book and read it, and have the same comments as you. 
I have also La grande histoire du ravitaillement en vol by Francillon René (MAYBE it exists in english too) that's more balanced.
I have not yet read "In Cobham's Company: Sixty Years of Flight Refuelling Ltd.", by Colin Cruddas, published by Cobham plc. I am not sure, but am afraid that too will be mostly centered avìbout Cobham.

And then purely for nostalgia : Lionel Tarr's Modern Modern Wargaming Rules 1939 - 1945 : The First Modern Wargammer.

Got this one as I well remember the abbreviated version of the rules were in Donald Featherstone's seminal Wargamming. This includes the rules and Lionel's incredible 10 year wargames campaign.

I came across the 'Luftwaffe Secret Bombers of the Third Reich' as recommended by NARSES2 in Smiths today and bought it.

It's knee deep in aeroplanes with VERY long wings  and for £6.99 it's a veritable bargain. 

Mind you, I've never heard of 90% of the aircraft in there.

Also had notification that I can pre-order the 2nd edition of the Bombers book. Due out end Sept

Picked up a 2nd copy of the Airlife Phantom: Spirit of the Skies but the updated and expanded edition. Only trouble is I haven't actually spotted any changes as yet ! 

Will need to sit down with both editions and play spot the difference.

Always liked the book as that was the inspiration for the F-4HL and the F-4M FVS builds we did

Just got a note from Amazon that it's available, and it's the one I've really been looking forward to. Not sure whether to order now or wait until the revised British Secret Projects - Bombers is released ?

Only of interest to a limited few on here I expect, zenrat and JCF for starters, but today I got the Airfix Model World bookazine on car modelling, entitled 'Scale Modelling Road and Track'.

It includes a couple of builds by the UK WhatIf SIG founder Ian Hartup, and very good they are too, one of which is of the 1/24 Model Factory Hiro AC Cars A98 Coupe, which single handedly was responsible for the blanket 70 mph speed limit on UK roads.

I almost feel like building such a kit just to whack it with a BIG hammer, but as the kit costs £109 perhaps I won't.

Must admit I haven't built a car model since the days when I just about built every kit Airfix brought out  However I always admire the finish car modeller's get and quite enjoy the build articles in Airfix Magazine. I was also very, very impressed by the truck model that was opposite us at Telford. Mind you that was probably because of the "artwork"
