Another new arrival for the Falklands Shelf:

Now that's a very good book. Very moving and sad. His daughter is Miranda Hart, the comedian and actress, who talked about missing him during the war.

I've actually seen the Coventry deckplate which was recovered after the war when the Navy sent a team of divers down to the wreck to make safe the various weapons and bring back all the classified documents on board. The divers involved tell the story rather well!

NARSES2

Picked up the Scale Modelling DH Mosquito bookazine in WH Smiths. Some stunning builds in it
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The monthly magazine 'Aeroplane' seems to be doing two for ones, so June's edition comes with " 75th anniversary souvenir issue Lancaster".
Covers a selection of variants of the Avro Lancaster bomber and transport/experiment types. Touches briefly on the Lincoln and Tudor.
Lots of photos to improve any kit that you've bought or going to buy. Lots of Whiffing ideas and different engines used for testing.

PR19_Kit

Rosario Rausa's 'Skyraider' from 1982. The almost definitive history of the Douglas A-1.

Cost me all of £3 at my local preserved railway.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Gondor

I received yesterday the latest Blue Envoy publication

The Air Staff and the Helicopter

Only had time to quickly skim through it but enough to say that there are some interesting things in there.

Gondor
My Ability to Imagine is only exceeded by my Imagined Abilities

Gondor's Modelling Rule Number Three: Everything will fit perfectly untill you apply glue...

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

McColm

Rescued from a skip at work ' The World's Railways' Christopher Chant 2001.
438 pages of the history of the locomotive, rolling stock, carriages, stations and bridges.
A must for those interested in trains, lots of photos, prints, cutaways and drawings with text you can understand.
Health and safety would of had a field day before someone thought of the closed carriage ,great photos of the British APT and HST prototypes.

That makes a nice change, many 'World's Railways' books ignore the APT.  :banghead:

The Wooksta!

TBH, it's a bit outdated now - more reliable information has come out in the 50 years since it was published - but it's a good companion for Green's Warplanes of the Third Reich.

Amongst many books recently added to the library, I finally acquired a complete graphic novel of all three issues of "Ministry of Space".
"It's basically a cure -  for not being an axe-wielding homicidal maniac. The potential market's enormous!"

Its not a new book published in 1985 and sold on behalf of the City of London's Libraries for 80p.
War in the Air, 187 pages that provides a page-by-page account of the history of air warfare, from the first efforts by Italian pilots in 1913 to the actions of the devastating weaponry in action over the Falklands and Lebanon.
The book is richly illustrated with many rare colour ,black and white photos, together with profile drawings of the aircraft involved in the thick of the battle.

The Air Staff and the Helicopter by Chris Gibson.  Great fodder.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Picked up off eBay Warship Vol II and Vol V, which are bound editions of the quarterly magazine from the 70s's, (the Quarterly was phased out and it became an Annual instead). I got these as they had some interesting articles including the Lion Class battleships, RN Type 15 & 16  frigate conversions, US CVLs, Essex Class and RN Leander conversions amongst the others.
Project Cancelled SIG Secretary, specialising in post war British RN warships, RN and RAF aircraft projects. Also USN and Russian warships
